What year Engine Do I Have Here?

I have an 88 1500 Silverado 4x4 that has somewhere along the line had an engine transplant. The 88 filter it calls for is too long, hits the drive shaft and is too narrow. The one that fits is a Purolator L20049 or Wix 51069 , Napa 21069. I can't find a cross reference chart to find the year of that engine no matter where I look. Its a TBFI 350. Can anyone give me the year or year span?

88-98 4x4s use a filter relocator on the boss to clear the driveshaft for the transaxle.

without bothering to look up your numbers, any and all V8 chevys of that era take PF30 (camaro - short filter) or PF35 (longer filter) on the stock boss. (these are AC delco numbers)

the 88-98 used a PF51/52 over the years (PF47 will also fit but has too little capacity) but it was turned horizontal via the relocator. sounds like someone stuck in a motor and its boss was not drilled and tapped to accept the bolts from the relocator....if that is the case - you are swcrewed and will have to go get a large base filter adaptor/relocator from summit or whitney etc and mount a filter mount up front on the fender (be a good time to insert a cooler inline also)

Re: What year Engine Do I Have Here?

i may be bring, but there should be no reason you would have to drill and tap anything to accept the bolts on the relocater. i replaced an engine in my 94 z71 (4x4) with an wnginw from a 2wd sierra. when you remove the filter, there are two bolts holding the plate on that the filter threads to. i took the relocater off my old engine and bolted it to the same bolt holes, it worked fine.

I meant in the case where a really old, even gen1 sbc block was used...the filter boss is not tapped to take the 2 bolts in those motors, on the newer stuff, even the 2wd uses the filter adaptor if they have KC4 engine oil cooling

*edited to correct spelling
