3.8 to 3800 swap

I have bought a 1986 Park Avenue with a bad engine (VIN code B) and supposedly good tranny, which has no importance for my question. I was wondering if I could put a 3800 in there and what modifications would I need to make. I can probably find a wrecked vehicle with the 3800 easier than the early 3.8's. Okay, I guess it's a matter of loving that 3800 in the 90 olds 98 and 88 olds 88. I have found a couple 3.8's, but I am thinking of making this my replacement car and wouldn't mind making the swap, ya know.

Is it possible to splice the wiring harness or would that be too mean of a job? All comments and criticism is welcomed. Just don't get the thread locked because I would really like to know.

Re: 3.8 to 3800 swap

86-99 had the same engine so look for another B it would be better so there wont be problems with instalation. the K and the L series has much different numbers when comparing the specs on the engine. mine was a L series that came outta 93 la sabre and it fit into a 92 olds that had an L series so the connections almost mated flawlessly
i'm sure other people have here other suggestions too ...i'm only saying this since this is what worked for me

Do it safely

Happy motoring
