how to get a deep shine from clear coat in a can?
Wassup,
i'm in the process of painting my civic side skirts and i was wondering if i should clear coat with a can or take it to a body shop? I know prep is very important, and i have been sandin like crazy and spraying nice light even coats! I just wanted to know that although i have prepped well, is clear coating from a can going to produce the deep gloss you see in the stock paint job? is there some special technique that can be used with a can to get a good result? or am i better off sending my painted parts to a body shop? thanks!

you can achieve factory gloss from clear in a can. you just have to prep very well. also be sure to color sand(sand in between coats of color paint). when you lay on the clear- lay it down thick where its almost about to run BUT MAKE SURE IT DOESN'T REACH THAT POINT. if it does you'll have to load it down on that area so it all just runs off. anyways, keep doing coats of the clear until you reach the desired gloss. i painted my skirts over the summer and they are fine right now. as soon as all the snow melts and what not i'll take some pics to show how they are holding up
