Guess What I Just Bought

i just bought a 91 mustang LX. the bad thing about it is that it is only a 4 banger. dont make fun of me. it has alot of new parts, brand new wheels everything...the thing that confuses me is the guy told me he had 8 spark plugs. How did he get 8 plugs to go into 4 cylinders? would this give it more power?

do you guys think it would be worth my time and money to try and make this thing fast, or just make it look good with new wheels/paint and small modifications for performance (cai, exhaust, etc)??

My 2.3L Ranger has 8 also. I don't know the exact reasoning behind it, but I figure that having 2 sparks would improve fuel combustion (especially if one fouls or something). Improved combustion improves emmisions and a little more power.

Re: Guess What I Just Bought

i say keep the 4banger, make it look really tight. with stuf like clear lights, paint job if u can afford it,and gauges. in a couple a years get a crate engine and a tremmec and throw em in. in the end you will have somthing you can feel proud of.

the first thing im doing is gettin this pony painted...as it is right now its silver with PURPLE racing stripes..looks tacky and gay. after that i might get some small things for performance. do they make 4.10 gears for the 4cyl's rearend? cuz i would get those, full exhaust and CAI. thats when performance would stop. and id get some pony wheels

That ratio seems a bit high to me for a 4.

there are people on stangnet.com runnin 4.10s in their 4s,
i just need some kind of acceleration. im not worried about gas mileage since it gets good mileage as it is. and i dont do much highway driving.

well you can get 4.10s.. it doesn't matter if you have a lawn mower engine or a caddy v-16 in it, you can still put them in.

personaly, i would drop that 4 banger like a bad habbit. do you want power, or looks? i like both my self. but hey its up to you, congrats, and hey, how old are you?

Re: Guess What I Just Bought

im 16. if i did get the 5.0 id end up spending all my money on insurance i wouldnt have any left over cash. what i want is a car that can turn heads, but i know if i had a car that turns heads but cant even spin the tires im gonna get laughed at, but i dont really care anymore, i have a 4 banger, its better than no car at all.

I have a 92 Mustang with the same dual plug motor. The extra plugs are more for emissions than power as the extra plugs ignite on the exhaust stroke (or so I've been told). The engine only makes around 110 hp stock so .... on the plus side you can make the car handle better than a V8 because of the weight advantage.

Well considering the 7.5" rear in the 4 bangers came with 3.73's stock.... Then I'd say 4.10's will make very little difference with that low hp motor. But anything helps. Just not worth the money IMO.

yea i did look to see where the other 4 plugs went and it appeared they were heading to the exhaust ports or somewhere near it.

oh and incase anyone was wondering i got the car for $1800 with 140k miles on it, i think its nice for a first car, its got brand new tires with 10 hole rims, new speakers, brand new transmission (he also threw in the old trans which has nothin wrong with it). he said he wanted to drop the 5.0 into it so he bought stiffer suspension and you can really tell its stiff so it doesnt drive well, but i'll end up getting that fixed. and he also said he put a new head on it, im gonna ask him tomorrow. when i told him i wanted the 5.0 he said this would run with them(which of course is bullshit :P )

LOL, yep they do have them, the 2.3s anywaay. I really think since you're 16, maybe do some minor mods but keep that motor. When you get a few years of driving under your belt, then drop in a V8 or even better sell the car and buy a 5.0.
I'm not saying all 16 year olds are reckless, but I remember what it was like at that age. I bought my 67 Mustang at 19. I'm saying this because a couple weeks ago, I saw some kids in a 5.0 showing off, they lost control and smacked a tree on the passenger side. No one was hurt, but the car was really messed up, all for stupid showing off.

well the insurance shouldn't go up because the insurance goes of the VIN dose it not? which in your case is a 4 banger, so you could pay less and have a 5.0 in the car. Another option is the 2.3 turbo. It would be a nice middle ground. My first car was a modded 67 and it was great. I miss it.....tear
