4cyl or Coupe?

You may have read about the 351w I'm building. Well I wanna go ahead and start looking for a car to put it in now. I want a LX notch. Should I look for a 5.0LX coupe or just find a 4cyl LX and modify the whole car? I'm running a 430hp 408 ft. lbs 351w, C4 tranny with a 3000 Stall lock in - lock out converter, and a ford 9" with 3.73:1's. I'm sure i'll have to relocate the motor mounts, do some work to the fire wall, relocate the tranny crossmember and reconfigure the rearend. I'm probably gonna end up running ladder bars by the way. Trying to build a budget street car that will run 11's atleast. Lemme know what kind of car mods you think i may have to do. Any opinions will be usefull.

Why would you have to relocate the motor mounts, and rework the fire wall??? This puzzels me......

Just keep in mind that finding a 4cyl chassis to convert will take a lot of work to meet the standards of a 5.0 chassis.

Re: 4cyl or Coupe?

HiFlow, I'd have to relocate motor mounts and notch the firewall in a few places to fit a 351 in a 4cyl car. Stang Racer, what are you asking for your notch and what kind of condition is it in?

He wouldn't be tearing it up. A kid doesn't need a 5.0 anyway, thats how they get torn up.

yeah we just did a 4cyl to 5.0 upgrade with a stock 302. if i was gonna to do it again i would find a 5.0 notch. but if i were building a nice ride it would not matter. you will have to change all the suspension, brakes and wire harness among other things. it ended up being more expensive then we planned. i guess if you are gonna make a street racer you would want to upgrade everything you would have to change in a 4cyl or 5.0.

we did the swap in front of our town house, the home association went nuts ;p~~~

Re: 4cyl or Coupe?

I wont have to worry about wiring harnesses, The only wireing on my car will be for lights and ignition, Other then altenator and stuff like that of course. As for brakes and suspension I hope to find a '95 that i can get suspension off of for a 5 lug conversion. I will probably go with disc all thw way around.

Its in decent shape: some lower rust on the sides and on the trunk lid. the driver fender is smashed in at the rear which gouged the door a bit. the front bumper is cracked on the bottom. i'll try to get some pics soon. i bought it as a parts car to begin with, but i got what i really need so now i need to get rid of it. i thought about turning into a drag car as well cause it would be perfect, but with my 92 GT not done yet and I still wanna get an 04 f-150 this year yet, its definitely not in the budget.

where are u from?

I'm from NC too. There's fox body Mustangs all around here, surprised you haven't found one. You could always try the sale in Kenley, its open to the public now.

Humm are you sure about that? The 4cyl has the same geometry as a 5.0 and that doesn't need any fab work to make a 351 fit.
