Talking Koenigsegg CC

Well, I’ve loved the design of the Lamborghini Diablo from 1990 until its demise in 2001. I’ve never been fond of what was under the Diablo’s skin, but I was completely fascinated by its unique, one-in-a-thousand original body designs. Frankly, the McLaren F1 held my undying interest as far as the pure, raw power it produced, although it’s over $1,000,000.00 price tag was absolutely unreasonable (the Koenigsegg is around $400,000.00), but like the Diablo, they have been shelved as well.

Now, I can move forward with a wonderfully outstanding, beautiful body style coupled with its unbelievable super power. The Swedish designed is undeniably the world’s fastest production sportscar – 0 to 60 in 3 seconds flat, with a top speed of 245MPH (and that was proven in Texas during 2003’s Gumball 3000 rally from San Francisco to Miami Florida). I’ve gotten my hands on a version of the British auto show Top Gear where they evaluated it, and it is in Jeremy Clarkson’s opinion the supercars of supercars.

I was never convinced that a Ferrari or Lamborghini V-12, or a Bugatti W-16 was nothing more than an interesting engine with a ridiculously high price, and now the Koenigsegg has proven that a V-8 has enough pistons to set outstanding records. Lamborghini has left its marks in the supercar field, but it’s 2004, and its time to say goodbye to a car that was superlative in its time, but has now been left behind in the dust. Thank you Lamborghini, and goodbye.

Re: Koenigsegg CC

I would disagree about the CC being the fastest ever. I have never seen a 3 second flat 0-60 time for this car, but regardless, it has equaled the acceleration of the Enzo, S7, etc. but not surpassed them in tests by the same mags.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to seeing what Koenigsegg will have in the future. If they can iprove, then yes, they may eventually have the best production car ever.

I don't know whether the CC surpasses the other supercars in performance, performance levels are in an unknown territory compared to my driving skills. Will I ever try to do a 3 sec 0-60 while continuing to hit 240+mph? But the car sure looks beautiful, once I saw the door open in the top gear test I fell in love with it.

By the way, is this car available in the U.S.?

Does anyone have the data from Top gear's 0-150mph test on their runway?

From memory it was Pagani Zonda fast rather than Mclaren F1 fast.

Re: Koenigsegg CC

From the video it was faster than the Pagani, but what made me curious was that the Pagani was the fastest prior to the CC. Which brings up the question, did TG ever test the F1? I know Tiff did but I forget if he was still with TG then or not.

The info I was after was printed on the Topgear website, when they were filming with the Koenigsegg they managed to break the supercharger belt.

Later the car was returned and they raced it from a standing start up the runway to a speed of about 170mph, this was done with full telemetry as oposed to the 174mph run down the runway seen on the TV. They printed 0-170mph time in increments of 10mph, its probably the most detailed Koenigsegg speed test printed, bar the underpowered one that autocar tested.

Top Gear did do a TV review of the Mclaren F1 in about 1994, I don't think they extensively tested the F1 against the clock. The only properly instrumented test of the F1 was by autocar (figures in their road test section online). Car and Driver in the US conducted a test but it was with a US modified car which was down on power compared with the British version.

Re: Koenigsegg CC

I haven't read the C&D test, but it shouldn't be totally disregarded due to a slight downplay in bhp. I can't remember the exact difference between the models, but the US vesion wasn't significantly slower if memory serves me.

Admittedly a fantastic machine "a fighter plane" as quoted from Gumball 3000 the movie.

But for $500,000 I'd want a heck of a lot more reliability. The car broke down countless times in the film.

The new CCR is coming out and should make a run at LeMans like the McLaren did.
