Sun Roof problems with J30

Sunroof opens up but will not drop down and go back to open. Dealer tells me it sounds like I need to replace the whole assembly and will cost at least $700.00? Car only has 80K miles and was own by a old lady. Just does not seem it would be worn out. Maybe the motor or is there some type of grease job that needs to be done?

I have the same problems. Mine mostly gets affected in the summer, and i have to push it with my other hand to get it moving again. I think it may be a motor that needs to be replaced. I tried putting grease in mines, but it didn't really help.

I have a 97.5 and my sunroof motor went out at about 27K - it was covered under warranty; to date no further issues. Hpwever, from the web sites i visited, the sunroof can be an issue and like the reply before mine, I have heard of people having to assist the sunroff to OPEN but not to close.

Before I spend $700 to repair it, look on ebay automotive/j30 and i have seen sunroof motors assemblies go for about $50-$75.

my mom owned the j before me, and she never used the thing, that could be the main source of your problem. i also agree with the whole ebay thing. infiniti dealer prices are just too expensive!!

But is the motor really the problem? I have to assist mine to open and close. Could it be a linkage problem or something? My motor sounds like it runs fine. How is it connected to the sunroof?
