In your situation, a great habit to develop is to copy your whole post before pressing the button, so if it craps out, you can paste it right back in. I usually do this if I've spent more then 3 minutes or so composing my reply...

When you're done typing and about to push the submit button, highlight all the text you typed then press Ctrl+C. Then you can paste it later by pressing Ctrl+V.

yeah I also had a bit of trouble getting onto AF earlier this evening....even though my 56kmodem had a good connectionand would get onto other sites pretty quick...well quick enuff for a 56k anyway... .

and yep I've also learnt the hard way to copy (as Jay pointed out) some long posts just in case modem crashes

Yeah, same here. However, i still get horrible lag in games, mostly because the cable lines here are not optimized for gaming, but just web surfing. I get about 150-600 kbps connection speed at any time, but gaming still sucks for me.

As Jay suggested...Always have a backup

I hear ya. Talk about slow connection...People and their HUGE pictures in their signature don't help either. People and their HUGE attachments don't help either. And the fact that AF refreshes everytime you resize the window definitely doesn't help! Why?!?! Bloody Javascript!

This always happens when I post. I like my windows to be maximised. So in the middle of writing my post, I realise that the window is too small and I maximise it. NOO!!! It's all gone. So I've developed the habit of copying my post after I've been writing for a long time. The same for emails. You never know what to expect when you submit a post or send an email.
