couple questions about stroking...

okay, figured out what i want to do. planning on stroking a 350 to 383. what is the best i should do though. .10,.20,.30,.40 over? whats better, more reliable, and all the stroker kit im getting is around 600.00 and i got to find me a block.
1. what should i do .10,.20,.30,.40 over?
2.should there be any head work done or will they be fine?
3. i need to find a good carb, and intake and a distributor.
4. How much will a #1 cost? never had it done before.
5. how much is balancing going to cost...

Im not stuiped but i would like to know this stuff yes, going from a 350-383 is not a learners step, im going to have someone do the work for me, i just want to know how much its going to cost. I got a block, heads and all and the stroker kit its self, but i need to know what its going to cost to bore it and little shit like that.. help please///

Re: couple questions about stroking...

1 - 0.030 over is the best, its a standard, lots of cheap parts, aka pistons and rings, so no custom stuff, less money. and its a number machine shops are used to doing.

2 - if your already droppin the dime, i would spring for at the very least a port and polish and maybe a three angle valve job. not really nessesary, but certainly to your benifit.

3 - for a 383, i would reccomend a 750-800 cfm, unless its a radical street/strip monster. a mild to kinda spicy 383 should handle those numbers fine. intake, edelbrock performer, and a stock HEI distributor would work just fine.

4&5 - dunno, havnet had it done myself, couldnt tell ya.
