Electric Door Lock Install
I decided to put a set of electric door locks on my '00 XE 2 pack(no power package). Install went fairly easy. I oreder a set of 4 electric door locks from Bulldog Security. The set cost approx. $32 shipped. I had an extra actuator to use for the rear hatch. There are no switches to install, so no cutting is necessary. The front door locks have the switch built in. ie: when you lock or unlock the front doors all the locks will lock or unlock. I also have an aftermarket alarm system that I will be hooking the locks up to. This way I will have remote entry. In some ways I wish I would've gotten the power package, but it's one less thing to go wrong, plus the fact they only had 2 X's on the lot, mine and a 4x2. I'll try to do a better right up along with some pics shortly.......

but were did u get the actuators for the other doors i know they are expensive and didnt come with the kit |

The actuaters came with the set. Go to the "Accesories" section at www.bulldogsecurity.com. You can buy a singal actuator to for the rear hatch to give you 5 total. Will cost you less than 50 bucks with shipping for all 5. Then a few hours of install time. If I would've worked steady on mine it would've taken between 4 and 5 hours.

How did the install go?
I had the exact same thing. My 00 came with no power package, so I had an installer put in remote entry. I want to install power locks and an aftermarket alarm as we.
I noticed under the hood I have a junction relay box that has markings for the alarm, power locks, daytime running lights, etc. Am I to awssume that the wiring is already there for all of this gadetry?? Anybody that might know, please let me know since it would be easier to tag into than to run new wire and a harness. Csquare |

The power locks would include the push button on the doors. He only installed the front door actuators so I will have to put the rear doors in. Pain in the butt since I will have to put the bridges on and everything.

I have the same need exactly! So glad I found your post, thank you. I am going to order the kit from the bulldog site. I had to click next a million times to find the kit but what a deal...
Any advice for the install? (seriously, anything at all) Where did you mount the actuators? Any trouble since? Anything trip you up as you installed the kit? thanks again

Everything went pretty smooth. The hardest part is running the wires to the front doors. I ended up just tie rapping them them to the outside of the rubber boot with wires in it. The rears are very easy. I just cut a slit into each "boot" and ran the wire through it. As for mounting you'll just have to look and see which way will work best. There's not much room to work with inside the doors. Also be sure that the window will clear the actuator. And no problems thus far..... knock on wood.....

masters and slaves in package
I ordered two 4-door kits as it was such a good deal. One for my XTerra, on e for my VW. I also ordered an extra actuator for the rear door.
Both 4-door kits seem to have included only one master and three slaves. This is contrary to both the picture on the package and the web site. Included in my kit: 1 actualtor has four wires, the other three have two wires. Have I been had? Can you confirm that I should have two four wire actualtors in the four door kit? Or have I missed something electrical that I don't understand? I am pretty sure that I need two of the four wire actuators to have both front doors activate the power locks. I am pretty dissapointed but thought I'd check with you before I contact the company tomorrow (monday) and then . if they won't remedy the situation, call the credit card company. I hope this works out for the better, I have been having vey bad web shopping luck lately. I will follow up either way for the benefit of everyone. Thanks for your help Z

I'll check my wiring stuff tomorrow. It's been quite awhile since I've put mine in. They may have redone the wiring so that the other front actuator is controled from the relay box. If not, I really wouldn't worry about it. It is very rare that I have used the passengers door to actually lock or unlock the doors. I also have a remote starter on my truck and was able to tie into it and have keyless entry.

The kit is supposed to contain two masters! I did not want the expense of an alarm system, just wanted the locks to work with the front key. I wanted to be able to unlock the passenger side and have the rear seat unlock so we could put the baby in his car seat and have the same thing happen when unlocking the front driver's door. The kit shows two masters and the Bulldog Security website also described the kit as containing two masters. I bought two kits and was very disappointed.
For me it was more a matter of safety than a matter of convenience. Since I wasn't able to accomplish this with what Bulldog Security sent me, I did not install. I tried repeatedly to contact Bulldog Security and received no replies. Bulldog Security are quite aware of the misleading advertisement and care not to remedy the situation. I have a feeling they have done several two door installs and found they could stretch their kits in this way. I believe we have been ripped off intentionally and dishonestly. So I am stuck with two useless kits. I will likely combine them to make one useful kit and add power locks to my westfalia at a cost of $70. You can get legitimate kits from reputable vendors for $50. I recommend that. Bulldog Security does not take care of its customers and therefore Bulldog Security should be AVOIDED. Sorry for the caps but my goal is to save others the frustration. Regarding the power lock install, that is something you should definitely undertake because its just so nice when it is done. What did I do about my power locaks in the XTerra? sorry, y'all, traded for Volvo. Signin off. (go ahead, call me a sell out)
