blowing taillight fuses!!! arrrggghhhh!!!
2 days ago i blew the taillight fuse and it won't stop blowing. it will work fine until i take off and shift into second, then, blam, i only got headlights. apparently this 15 fuse causes all my interior lights, side markers, turn lamps, and tail lights to turn off when it goes. the only thing i have that i put on electrical is my gauge faces, and they are still working, and the splice is still good [it was the first thing i checked]. i don't think that would have to do with this because they are still on, and unaffected. all the lights work fine before it blows. this is driving me nuts. please help!!

Re: blowing taillight fuses!!! arrrggghhhh!!!
You have a wiring short somewhere. Time to pull out a woring diagram and check all your wires for possible shorts. Of or pull out a test light and multi meater and go nuts.
Good luck |

that's what i was thinking, but if all the ligths work when the fuse is good, would it be more like a frayed wire touching something?

Re: blowing taillight fuses!!! arrrggghhhh!!!
I had the same exact thing happen when I put in my pos alteezas. It ended up being a wire pinched between one of the screws and the rear of the car. Caused all the problems you mentioned. Dunno if you did anything with the tails. But I'm sure it wouldn't be any different with the headlights... I don't know why the gear would matter... but then again... I'm a dumbass

Re: blowing taillight fuses!!! arrrggghhhh!!!
yeah i'm having this same problem with my interior lights/power antenna fuse...as soon as i insert the fuse, it'll pop...and when i do get it in without blowing, it lasts for maybe a day then it blows again!
(although i don't even have my car back yet...still getting its second shortblock installed since original sb) but i'm thinking it's a short...anyone have any other ideas? the electrical on these cars really suck

Re: Re: blowing taillight fuses!!! arrrggghhhh!!!
ok, i found the culprit, and this is one that can potentially get anyone.
on the passenger side headlight assembly, the turn lamp connecting wires were hanging out and became lodged in the hole where the UICP runs down. the wire was chaffed almost in half. it was barely caught in there [with upgraded UICP there is not much room] but the damage was done. i took off the air filter and cut the wire, spliced it up all nice and wrapped all 3 wires in electrical tape, then put them down in the body where they belonged. i'm not sure if my power antenna was effected, but my interior lights were. i would check to see if anything in the stereo area is sharing power lines first, if you have an aftermarket stereo, or any other electrical things that have been installed. i was freaking because i have more than a couple wires 'sharing' power under my dash [boost gauge. boost controller, dash gauges, stereo]. if one connection gets free of a connector and rubs grounding metal on the frame, blam. |
