Went out and bought the Equus ODB II code reader to troubleshoot a Service Engine Soon light.
It quickly returned the following. P0125 Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Insufficient for Closed Loop Fuel Control Given this information what action should take first? This what a google search returned. 1 Open or short in heated oxygen sensor (bank 1 sensor 1) circuit 2 Heated oxygen sensor (bank 1 sensor 1) 3 Air induction system 4 Fuel Pressure 5 Injector 5 Gas leakage on exhaust system 6 ECM Is there a good book or document someone could recommend to assist me in performing these 6 tasks? How can locate the (bank 1 sensor 1)? |

Re: What to do with a P0125 code
Make sure the ECT/CTS (coolant temperature sensor) is plugged in properly and no wires are broken/shorted.
Clear the code and drive the vehicle for a day or two. If the code does not return, forget it for now. If it does, have someone check/scan the computer, specifically the ECT for live data info. In other words, is it sending the proper information to the computer. This is usually an educated judgement based on what the mechanic sees on the scanner relative to current engine temp, ECT voltage, ambient air temp and other variables. To do this yourself, you'll need a digital voltmeter and a chart to check the ECT voltage against the engine temperature to see if the ECT is changing as it should. Since I don't have that information readily available, I might recommend you do a search for "testing the cts", "testing the coolant temperature sensor", or a variable thereof. |

more problem info
Thank you for the information so far. It is truly appreciated. I will examine as soon as I get home.
Should have included this earlier. It starts alright when cold and I can drive around the block. When I cut it off and try to restart it has problems. Finally after several tries it cranks and blows smoke from the tail pipe. Hope this helps narrow it down somewhat. |

Re: What to do with a P0125 code
I've got the same code on my 99 Suburban. Recently the Tech at NTB told me that my water pump was leaking. I guess I should start there.

Yes. It turned to be a bad water pump and I had it replaced.
My problem now is that the passenger door has dropped. The handle is broke and the locking mechanism is getting mangeled. Any suggestions? I can provide pictures. |

Thank you very much for your help! I am really tired of rolling down the window to get out of the car. Not to mention the thought of the door flying open while riding around. Thanks, Jon |
