Question on 3:90 gears
How much different are 3:90 gears from 3:73 gears?Would you notice a difference between the two or is it barely noticeable?
How much time will 3:90 gears knock off in the 1/4 mile? |

Re: Question on 3:90 gears
from what i understand the 3.73:1 is how many times the driveshaft rotates to how many times the wheel rotates... so id imagine they wouldnt be too much of a difference, im not sure though.

You'd never know they were changed.Even the speedo wouldn't be out very much.Anytime you make a gear change on a street car, .25 (ratio) would be about the minimum you should consider
3.27----3.55 3.55----3.73 3.73----4.10 4.10----4.30 4.30----4.56 See what I mean? |

Re: Question on 3:90 gears
The only way 3.90's would slow you down in the 1/4 is if you where gear bound. Unless you'r car doesnt have it on the top end, No Offense. If you feel that you need a lower gear, try a smaller tire before you spend a few hundred bucks. Shorter tire = steeper ratio.

Re: Question on 3:90 gears
i believe that if gears accompany a tire/rim upgrade, they often may cancel each other out. ie- 16in with 3.23 gears to 18 in rims with 3.73 gears is not much a difference. check out this site www.tchracing.com/tech.php and select the gear calculator. also check out http://www.precisiongear.com/pgtech_tire.htm to see what a tire change can do to gear ratios.
