RIP my Nissan 240SX. 1990-2004.
don't worry, i didn't crash or anything. i'm fine and the car LOOKS fine...but it's not. she died of cancer...AKA rust. i bought the car a month ago. got 4 guys besides me who are familiar with the car (i've been around them for 6 years myself) to check it out with me. it looked all good to go. i took the car in today to have the clutch fixed. my class-A mechanic friend lifts it up on the hoist and we discover rust after rust after rust. the car is dead. beyond salvage. not road-worthy and won't be unless i put $3000 (that i don't have) into it to have the frame completely rebuilt. i dunno about where all of you are from, but in Ontario, there is a law that your car must be safety certified before you can obtain a license for it and drive it on the streets. the mechanic i took it to is an honest friend who wouldn't be trying to screw me. he is licensed to do these tests, and told me that it would not pass in it's current state. nor would it pass if i did a quick fix on the frame, ie. weld some metal plate over the trouble spots.the only way it would pass is if i got the frame rebuilt. so, and this should go without saying to those of you that know me, i'm SUPER pissed. i broke my pinky finger today after finding out, because i punched a metal cabinet a bit too hard...kinda dented the cabinet too. the car is either being sold whole to someone who's willing to put the work in, or i'm just parting it out. either way, i hope to get my money back so that i may pursue my next 240SX. and, as if this huge kick in the balls wasn't enough, my dad is mad at me, i have no job, no money, my classes suck, my teachers are assholes, and my girlfriend is mad at me for no reason whatsoever. life sucks.

My regards to my fellow Nissan/Datsun brother.....14 years is way to young for a vehicle to pass away from cancer. Keep your head up Brian, hopefully things will get better. |

...ahh yes... Canadian Winters will do a charm on any vehicle... im assuming it has been driven in the winter.
theres always a junk yard, take your buddys and a couple wrenches and pick out a 240 with a nice looking underbody, and start tearin it apart, you should be able to get what you need for a couple hundred, or for free in some cases. |

Re: The Dream Is Over
Wow, that really does suck. I can't stand rust, I always end up looking under, inside, and outside to find rust on anything I buy - I nearly didn't buy the Le Car because of it's surface rust.
In the U.S. only a few states, mostly the northeastern ones inspect for rust, since most other states are dry enough that rust usually doesn't become a hazard until many, many, years into the cars life - by which time it's usually ready to go to the junkyard anyway. If it's just the frame or suspension pieces, you could try getting those from a junkyard if you could find one rust free enough, and had some competent help. Otherwise, I guess your car is seriously dead. Move to Arizona. Sucks about your girlfriend too.

Holy shit dude. Thats one sad ass situation
I hope you are able to salvage some money out of that deal. Hate to say it, but it won't be the worst thing that'll ever happen to you, but its one you'll learn from.

Re: The Dream Is Over
I bet if you decided you were real stubborn, and decided against the RX-7 idea of mine... You could prolly find a good rust-free shell, and swap parts...
I know of several in junkyards... |
