Unhappy Gas mileage

Any suggestions on improving gas mileage in a 2000 Sub with 5.3L?

Re: Gas mileage

sell your burb and buy a motorcycle.... :-)

in all seriousness, driving a vehicle this big and heavy you aint gonna do much better than what you probably get right now. things that wont cos too much are new exhaust systems, new air filters, better plugs and wires, the normal stuff. If you gotta lot of money, you can do tons of different things to the engine that may help out a little, but probabaly not too much. all depends on your budget.

Thanks, I think. I've done the exhaust and air filter and got a little pop outa that effort and am about to go the platinum plugs, injector service and performance plug wires route. After that, well, I think I'll toss in the towel. I had an older 5.7L Suburban that got me a little spoiled, I guess.

Lightbulb try smaller tires

Although GM does not equip these trucks with monster tires, you might try to change to a narrower tire size. There are also tires ratings for efficiency you could compare. You might make the vehicle look a little "wimpy" with narrower tires so I guess you have to decide whether it is worth it.

As for my family, we drive diesel. Unfortunately, GM has not made a diesel Suburban since 1999 and is wavering on a Duramax version. We have found, however, that the diesel motor makes driving such a large vehicle a little more ecomomical.

We have a 1990 and a 1996 diesel Suburban.
