Should disconnected O2 sensor light SES?

I am trroubleshooting my 97 4.3L low idle/stalling problem (see my other post - "Low searching idle and Stalling") and I disconnected my O2 sensor electrical cable trying to get the computer to go to defaults - I still have the problem; however, more puzzling is that I did not get an SES light (I assume that means no code was thrown as well?)

Does anyone know if the SES should come on if the O2 is unplugged - maybe one of you kind souls could try it on yours - its easy to get to - right side on exaust pipe near front rt tire.

Thanks for any help whatsoever.

you actually have 3-4 02 sensors... disconnecting one of the 1st 2 or 3 (1 on each manifold, 1 before the cat, 1 after) the comp will use the other sensors to compensate. To reset the computer, disconnect it for an hour or go to autozone to pull any codes and have them send a reset command to the ECM. That said, Have you pulled and cleaned your EGR? How are your plugs and wires? Coil? Fuel filter? Fuel pressure?

Re: Should disconnected O2 sensor light SES?

rlith - thanks for the reply. I have checked allthat stuff. Please see my detailed list in the thread titled "Low/searching Idle and Stalling" down a little further. I am at a loss and cannot think of anything else to check. Since no one else has answered the main post I would appreciate any comment or suggestions.
