what is your preferred method for changing body color/paint?

Recently been getting into photoshop. Anyway, just curious as to what method people use for changing car color, and actually making it look real. I always just lasso the areas I want to change the color of, then click the image menu > then adjustments > then hue/saturation, and asjust the levels from there, however sometimes the color doesn't look to realistic. Also, how do you make chameleon or mirage style "paint jobs". Lastly, how about carbon fiber?
Thanks much
Tim
PS - I am using photoshop 7.0

This is all I get if I change the hue/saturation/lightness and color level. Kind of flat, doesn't really go with the "fell" of the rest of the picture.

Re: what is your preferred method for changing body color/paint?

are you modifying the saturation, contrast, and brightness, and lightness?

I use curves(IMAGE>ADJUSTMENTS>CURVES).Just select your body or parts you want copy and paste it.Thehn either desaturate it or click on curves and play with the RGB and red/green/blue levels slider.

but then again it depends on the car that you're doing sometime si use variations or hue/saturation.Just make sure if you use hue/sat that the colorize box is checked then you might get better results.

oh and stay away from white cars they are a bitch to get looking right your really got to know what your doing wiht that color
