Auto ---> Manual PLEASE HELP!!!

O.K. I have a 1992 Nissan 240sx for Christmas. However I have been burdened with an AUTOMATIC (the word sends shrieks down my spine...jk) anyway I was wondering if I swapped an SR20DET
(comes with manual transmission) into my 240sx then what would I have to pay to get it custom fabricated to make my car manual???

Re: Auto ---> Manual PLEASE HELP!!!

I dunno... but I'm guessing all you would have to do is buy a shift boot and a shifter(maybe)

Oh, and a clutch kit to put that extra pedal in your car.

Well that is a relief because I was told by one of my friends that the fabrication would cost a !@#$ load of money...but you aren't sure so oh well.

Also while I am at it what would be the best turbo I should buy??? I have been searching on www.raretrick.com and have found many turbos but can't decide.

Trust me visit the site for all you JDM parts...

Re: Auto ---> Manual PLEASE HELP!!!

ditch the car, go buy a manual. the swap will cost more than the car. do it now before you put any money into this one.

mediocrity doesn't know what he's talking about...

Wait a second are you talking about the engine swap or how to fabricate the 240sx into a manual. Maybe I didn't make myself clear...

O.K. I want to buy a SR20DET it comes with the manual transmission. What I need to know is how much well it be to fabricate it so it has a stick, clutch, etc.

Also I want to keep my car and it is going to be a long term project well at least long to me...about 4 years. Heck I am only 16 but I plan on buying not just any SR20DET but an S15 engine. Besides if your going to spend that kinda of money you might as well go for one of the best!

We have done it here on the RHD's, and I am not sure if everything is the same, but here are a few of the things that you must have/consider:

1: Clutch pedal, hanger, etc. If your car doesn't have the factory knockouts for the lines to pass through the firewall, you will have to do some cutting and fabricating.

2: Linkage, slave cylinder, mastercylinder, lines etc. Although you have the xmsn, i sincerely doub't you got the lines and such with it.

3: The meter panel in you car probably has the PRND21 display. If so, often the transmission sending unit to the tach will be different. If it is the same, you will save money, but it will look sort of dorky.

The last thing you should be worried about is shiftboots etc. I would concentrate on mechanical aspects. 90% of the trannys will have the shift lever with them, so that shouldn't ba a proble for you anyways.

just my and good luck to you.

Mark

Re: Auto ---> Manual PLEASE HELP!!!

that has to be the best christmas present ever!!!!!! But dont under estimate the auto. Go to the strip and witness auto domination and those shreiks will turn into ones of fear instead of disgust. Yea i hope you can fulfill your dreams for your 240 good luck with your car!!!!!!
1,500 give or take a few 100 for a manual swap is a pretty common price. and matada pretty much explaind it all.

lol that picture makes him look like hes from plant of the apes whahahahahahaahah

Re: Auto ---> Manual PLEASE HELP!!!

Before I first bought my ol' 93 240 MT I was lookin' at a '89 240sx AT for $800... I too wanted to get the SR20 swap w/MT swap. Cartune was gonna do the swap for me for $4,500 incl. front S13 clip, motor installation, various aftermarket parts and MT swap! Check them out if you live in So.Cal.

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who anwsered my question...

The reason I need it to be manual is to drift and do circuits on the track. None of the illegal stuff but you kinda need a manual to drift.

Also thanks for the links and the prices it will come in handy...in addition I will try to posts some picks of my car as soon as possible.

Well here is my future plans for my car...

1. Weight reduction

2. Handling and misc.

3. Engine Modification (after high school)

The reason I have the engine modification last is I can't swap my engine until after high school but I just wanted to know the information now that way I would be ready to modify it for college.

(the reason why I didn't get a manual in the first place is because my parents knew I was going to race...which I was and still am)

Thanks Again...
