I just bought 1995 RS with a siezed engine (cheap) and I was hoping I could get some advice on what I can or should replace it with. I have an avenue for purchasing wrecked cars, so based on what I learn, I may have a nice working car for not too much money, but a good bit of work (hey, at least the labor is free!). How new an engine could I put in here? Or should I get an older one to build it up right? I plan on doing a fair number of mods, but Mitsubishi engines are my weak point at the moment. My primary experience has been on Ford and GM.

Re: Requesting advice on engine replacment
Well here's the skinny:
There is no cost effective way to put a turbo engine (4G63) in an RS. It is ruled out as an option. You can either get another stock 420A or build up your own for use with a turbo kit. To my knowledge, you can get 95 all the way up to 99 RS/GS motors in there no problem (i dont think there were any changes over the years to prevent 99 in a 95) |

Re: Requesting advice on engine replacment
People prefer the 4G63 because it comes ALMOST ready to bolt on most turbos for enormous power gain. With the non turbo motor, 420A, you have to buy a kit, which isn't cheap.
Also, 4G63 is built for turbo pretty much, which means it can handle more power on stock internals (400ish)whp compared to less on the 420A. To put a 4G63 into a non turbo 2g, you need to swap the entire front clip, axles, transmission, wiring harness, etc.. it's been done but I wouldn't recommend trying. Costs too much if nothing else. |

When thinking of putting a 4g63 in a NT, to sayings come to mind
Reinventing the wheel. Shovelling shit against the tide.

Re: Requesting advice on engine replacment
OK, so if I want to build an Eclipse, I should just swap out the motor on the one I have and sell it. Then I should buy what? What cars come with this motor?

Re: Requesting advice on engine replacment
Get a gs-t or GSX. If you're gonna "build" it, for racing or whatever. I would suggest the GSX. Since it's awd. But both come with the same engine (4g63)

Re: Requesting advice on engine replacment
My plans are for a quick, hot looking car. I don't really have plans for racing, but I do want it to be fast
