The RUF R Turbo is not a concept. It is currently the fastest production car in the world and is currently for sale here in the UK at £136,900 so i guess around $200,000.

RUF R Turbo:
Rear-engine RWD
3.6 twin turbo
520bhp@600RPM
546lb ft@3500RPM
0-60: 3.7s (claimed)
Max Speed: 213mph (proved)
Looks wise it is similar to the Turbo but with different side intakes, front lip, and of course the familiar 5-spoke RUF alloys.
EVO car magazine included it in its performance car of the year test and it came 8th out of 12. That sounds pretty bad, but just to be included it must be a damn good car; after all these guys test 100's of performance cars every year. There was very little in it between 8th and 3rd place but it seemed that the R Turbo was too brutal for its own good, sacrificing balance and progression for brute force, with the handling dominated by the power. It's described by the testers as:
"unbelievably rapid"
"nevers feels anything less than ballistic"
"you get the feeling that you might as well be driving on ice when the turbos spool up"
"superb brake pedal feel"
"peerless gearchange"
"outrageous grunt whether youre in 2nd at 30mph or 5th at 130"
"unleashing the full 520bhp will make it squirm and writhe up the road almost like it's torque steering"
"power is overwhelming"
"the only car here that scared me"

The conclusion is that it's an awesome driving machine, but perhaps a little too scary to drive.

The Pagani Zonda C12S won the title, by the way, followed by:
2. BMW M3
3. Lamborghini Murcielago
4. TVR Tamora
5. (new, revised) Porsche 996
6. Lotus Elise S2
7. Aston Martin Vanquish
8. Ruf R Turbo
9. Mitsubishi EVO VII
10. Mini Cooper
11. Renault Clio 172
12. Mercedes SL 500

so there you have it. Hope that helps

cheers
jay

Re: Ruf R Turbo

Thanks for that enlightening post. You shouldn't bring up threads that have been inactive for so long. Anyhow, welcome to AF.
