electronic spark control
my 83 silverado has no spark. i was recently told that the electronic spark control module was bad. however when the people showed it to me in the book they were pointing to the "knock control?". I tried to take this off but i wasn't able to. i was wondering of there was any special way or different things you need to do. i have replaced everything else accept the ESC. does this sound right?

Re: electronic spark control
i would think they were talking about the ignition control modual (ICM) located in the distributer ( under the rotor). its not hard to remove.........just take the cap and rotor off , unpluge the 2 conecters and take the 2 small screws out

Re: electronic spark control
i was told that the ESC on my 83 silverado was about the same size and shape as the computer. but when i look at the 87-92 they look totally different. i was wondering if it was possible for me to use the 87-92 ESC and computer, or if it could be converted easily.

Re: electronic spark control
Torso25
I have a very similar problem with my ranch truck. I was driving it to the ranch for deer season and it quit. I replaced the distributor, coil, module, and rotor and still no spark. I was told that the ESC module is bad. Also, I was told that if you splice wires going to terminal A and C together, you can bypass the ESC and everything will work okay. Right now the truck is 100 miles away and I haven't got back to it. Anyone heard about splicing the wires. I sure would not want to screw up something else. |
