Angry Problems with the CRX

Hey guys...

My CRX keeps overheating, and it's really cheesing me off. I don't know what it is... but I'll jump in and head off down the road, and in less than 5 minutes of civilised driving the heat guage is pushing the redline. It's annoying me because now I don't feel particularly keen on driving it; I've reverted to driving my 1982 Civic wagon until I figure out what's going on *sigh*

Anyone got any suggestions as to what it could be? Engine badge is EV (1.5L SOHC carby - I think it's later called D15).
I think it's either the water pump or the thermostat sticking. Either way, it gets pretty hot pretty quick. I need to have it fixed... I'm thinking of selling it and buying a 4th gen hatch

Check thermostat first. Toss it anyway and replace it with a new one. Look for scale in your radiator (check it has water too - if not, go hunting for leaks). If it's clogged, you need a new radiator and getting the motor flushed. Check the pump - can't hurt to replace it either.

What I'd do in order is:

Thermostat
Water Pump
Check all hoses
Radiator

Regardless, drain the system and add coolant.

Cheers

First I'd check if there's coolant in the radiator.
If there's none, put some and check for leaks.

Only reason I didn't suggest the radiator / coolant is because I know there's plenty of coolant in the radiator. Frustrating.

I agree with Setanta. I would check the thermostat. I had the same problem with my REX and after I changed that I have never had a problem with it.

Thanx for the help guys

I always suspected the thermostat, as did most of my mates, but the conformation from you guys makes me all the more certain that it must be binned and replaced. Thanx again

Happy Honda'ing :flash:
