sub box question
Hey, I was wondering if anyones ever packed their sealed sub box full of insulation before? Im not sure what it does or anything but could sumone plese give me a rundown on whether or not this helps at all? thnx

Polyfill works by dampening internal resonances, which helps to keep the box from vibrating and reducing the strength of the wave outside the box. and also to provide a little xtra volume inside the box. My prefered insulation is air conditioning duct board. it is 1" thick..or 2" if u can fin it and it is easy to cut and form to the inside of the box. keep the silver side on the wood. it can be found at most air conditions supply stores and is not to expensive....

I've had good experiences with stuffing boxes.
I stuffed the sealed box in my older Cadillac with fiberglass insulation ... it has 2 x 12" JL Audio 12w6's in it .. powered by a real big amp... I also stuffed some home made home-stereo speakers that have 2 x 12" Infinity Reference series (white cone) subs in them ... made quite a nice difference .. I was able to compare a stuffed an unstuffed box with these units... stuffed one and left the other stock and tested.... stuffed > unstuffed I have also stuffed about 3 friends' sub boxes too... 1 x 15".. 2 x 12".. and 2 x 10".. relatively cheap subs in those boxes too... In all these cases the results have been favorable... basically they seemed to handle more power and sound a lot TIGHTER... My understanding is that the polyfill/fiberglass/whatever absorbs some of the energy from the backwave of the speaker ... i.e. it basically makes your box bigger ...

i literally stuffed them
as in enough to fill the box but not enough to be compressed against the speaker pissing is speaker i think u will like it  u can use just regular home depot style fiberglass insulation that u may have laying around .. or go buy some poyfilldo you have any pics of your box?

Ahh I just noticed your avatar..do you have JL Audio subs?
JL is great they make fantastic stuff.. the old W6s.. the new W7s.. those amps that dont give a shit about what ohm load you put on them ... etc i have always loved their products ... and I learned a lot about car audio from reading posts by Dan Kreft the old 7ft tall college basketball guy who hung around rec.audio.car on usenet and became an official JL guy at some point.. not to mention IASCA competitor... I have been eyeing a pair of XR650-CXi 6.5's for my 4G hatch.. Gotta love the external xover... They seem like they would go well with this small but 1-ohm stable HiFonics that i picked up from a pawn shop for cheap 100Wx2@4ohm RMS should work nice on some 6.5's
