Question 4th gen instrument cluster lens & climate control button?

My fiancee has a 99 GLE and the plastic lens that covers the instrument cluster was cleaned with something that left it permanently spotted. Anyone know if this can be replaced? Anyone know a part number?

The car also has a digital control panel for the climate control. The button that controls the temperature is cracked on the red "up" arrow. Anyone know if I can replace the button or whether I need to replace the whole digital control panel?

Thanks.
John

John,
I feel your pain. I just recently pulled out my automatic climate control unit to replace the small light bulbs inside, so I kind of have an idea of the work you are looking at. You won't be able to get the temperature "arrows" from Nissan...you'll have to buy the whole unit. When I took mine apart, the arrow buttons are an integral part of the unit...they can't even be popped off without completely disassembling the unit...which I did. Your best bet is to find a junked out Maxima and take the unit off of it.

Here's how you get it off. You gently pry the panel with the hazard signal button and AC vents upward with screwdriver...be very careful not to scratch...it will come up about a half inch away from the climate control section. You'll then have to use a long 8mm socket to remove the two bronze looking bolt/screws in the back through the half inch gap. Use a magnetized set so the bolts don't fall (happened to me). Next, pry up the panel around the shifter. Again, this pries up with gentle pressure from a screwdriver. You might have to shift into 1st gear and turn it to remove. Once removed, there are two 8mm bolts just like the ones on top. The one on the left is clear to see behind the ash tray. The one on the right can only be seen with a flashlight on the right side of the ashtray. There is a tiny slot that a tiny socket extension should fit through. Don't worry about scratching the area there because it is hidden with the panel you just removed. Once the 4 bolts are removed, the whole climate contol and stereo can be rotated foward with some effort. This will give you access to 4 screws (two on each side) on the climate control unit. Once removed, it will pop out of its pressure bracket. Remove the electronic clamp, a smaller clamp, and an air temperature hose and the unit comes away...weighs about 6 onces. You'll see little latches which help the front pop off and gives you access to the parts you need to replace (if you can find them). I just did this about 2 hours ago, so it was fresh in my mind and I could'nt pass up giving you the details.

Albert
