93 astro

I just got back from indianapolis the other day and it was -11 degrees. I came back home after a long drive and parked my van. I let it sit for a day, went out tonight and it wont start. The dome light and headlights will not come on. The Van will turn over, but not start. Interesting enough, the dome light was on seconds before I tried to start it. Tried to jump it with no luck. No dome or headlights, nor will it start. Checked all fuses and they are all good.

Someone please help because I am dependent on this vehicle.

Thanks,

Tim

It sounds to me like you might have a loose or broken wire somewhere, maybe near the relay box under the hood or behind the dashboard. When you turn on the headlight switch, does the dashboard light up?

If you can get a look at a Haynes manual, there should be a wiring diagram that can help you find the culprit wire/ wires. It sounds like your ECU may not be getting power, as well as the headlight relay. Best of luck

Re: 93 astro

My suspicion is battery failure, but do not rule out the electrical system for either draining it or not charging it. If the battery is more than 4 years old, I would have it checked. Ray

A couple new updates, was going to check trouble codes, but the check engine light does not come on. there are no dashboard lights either...

The turn signals and flasher are fine. It will turn over and over, but never start. I plan on getting the battery checked later on today. I looked around the battery and under the dash near the fuse box, did not see anything suspecious thus far.

Thanks for the tips that you have given me and I will check those "likely" areas as well!

Tim

I found a noisy relay im guessing, becuase i dont know much about this stuff.. located on firewall. Oddly enough, when the door is shut it makes noise, when the door is open it stops.. I'm guessing this is related to the lights problem somehow?? If this sparks a brain out there, please let me know. Anyhow, this noise is new and im suspecious of this relay. Any pointers will help..

P.S. its the smaller of the 2

Thanks,

Tim

Problem Solved! I referred to this after exhausting other areas: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t165970.html

DrParkwood does it again!

So, if your dome light, head lights go out and you can't start (due to ecm I lead faulty, which is the brown wire on the firewall which plugs into pos(+) terminal mounted there) you know what to do, look at drparkwood's listing above.

Thanks, Tim
