Cigarette lighter & antenna don't work

I just bought a 92 Accord LX. Found the fuse that made the dome light and truck light work..but the cigarette lighter doesn't work. This is a real problem, as I depend upon it from time to time for my cell phone charger (I don't smoke.). All the fuses seem to be ok.

Also, the antenna doesn't work either. There is no sound at all when I turn the radio on...and the mast is stuck in the down position.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Dan

Re: Cigarette lighter & antenna don't work

Since the radio doesn't work, the antenna won't work either. The antenna is made to turn on when AM/FM is selected and working. As far as those not working, I would double-check the fuses and pick up a digital multi-meter to test the wires ($25), make sure that the radio is getting switch and constant power. Check the grounds, make sure everything is grounded properly.

Did you ever figure out what was the problem? I am having the same problem with my 92 accord ex. I have the whole dashboard torn apart trying to figure it out. Is it possible that there is a problem with the cigarette lighter relay switch?

Those wires (for the radio and the cig lighter) are on the same fuse, and my fuse is fine as well. I have been using a multimeter to do some testing, but it is very difficult to trace the wires all over the inside of the dash. Any help is appreciated!

I have the same prblm, fuse is fine but the cigarette lighter and cd player wouldnot work (cd player power light on and runs but no sounds to the speaker). I found the CIG lighter relay way in the corner of dash board near the front door hinge, don't know how to reach in to unscrew and replace it yet. I see it and verify that wires are correct: white/blue, white/red, yello/red, and black. I guess once this relay is replaced, the radio and cigarette lighter should work. Any body has the same proplem, please share.

Re: Cigarette lighter & antenna don't work

The power to operate the antenna and power for the cigarette lighter relay is on the same circuit and is hot powered at all times through fuse 22 (15A). When the ignition switch is turned on, it activates the cigarette relay and powers the cigarette lighter plug. (hot to the relay-wht/blu; from the relay to the cigarette plug=wht/rd) The antenna goes up when the radio is turned on because it activates a relay in the antenna. With no power, the antenna goes down powered by power from fuse 22. The coil for cigarette lighter relay is powered by fuse 11 (10A). on the yel/red wire. If fuse 22 keeps blowing, disconnect the antenna in the trunk. Hope this helps.

Re: Cigarette lighter & antenna don't work

The lights around the cigarette lighter come from the diming circuit and haved nothing to do the power to the cigarette lighter. But maybe, somebody pulled out the center console and disconnected the lighter and lights. As for the radio, you might have to pull it out and check the main cable connector plug. You can also do a resistance check to see if the speakers are hooked up. The speaker wires are on the right side (pax side of the radio). If you have resistence or hear clicking, and the antenna cable is hooked up, you have a bad radio. Did any of this stuff ever work while you had the car? You could have a bad lighter relay .

Re: Cigarette lighter & antenna don't work

Hi, My 94 Accord EX is hooked with the Sony CDX-CA860X unit. It could play CD without any problem but only the radio won't work. Antenna goes up when the unit is on but just no sound for any known radio station frequencies. Would it be the radio unit gone bad?

Re: Cigarette lighter & antenna don't work

Could be the radio, antenna lead or the antenna. To determine if it is the radio, disconnect the antenna at the radio and insert a 5 ft piece of insulated wire with about 1/4 inch of the insulation stripped off in the antenna hole at the radio. You should be able to hear an increase of noise and stations. If it works, disconnect the antenna lead at the antenna and do the same with the wire but touch the antenna lead. If it works there, it is the antenna which can be disassembled and cleaned. Honda uses capacitance coupling between the antenna lead and the antenna, so it doesn't take much to kill the signal if the nylon lifter rod is covered in dirt and grease.
