Question Apexi Power Intake or the FIPK?

Well I know most people have the FIPK and I hardly see anyone w/ the Apexi, but here http://www.geocities.com/mikegoodies...ctiontest.html it shows the Apexi comes on top. I was also thinking about it since I wouldn't have to deal w/ the oil and crap. What do you guys think? They are the same price.

Re: Apexi Power Intake or the FIPK?

Thats an interesting experiment. Most people use K&N for the life of the car with no trouble, but a little more filtration effectiveness cant hurt I suppose. Are the prices the same also for just a regular 3" inlet 9" cone? If you have a website with some prices I would be interested.

I cant vote in the poll, since I have only used the K&N But if I try the apexi maybe I can make a judgement of some sort.

One question that comes up though is it says maintenance is zero, lifetime use. So if its catching all this crap, why doesnt it have to be cleaned or replaced? Also, I wonder how the test would compare for power gain after 30k miles on both filters, etc.

Go HKS super mega flow-- being so sucky and costing around $120 for just the filter.

Re: Apexi Power Intake or the FIPK?

ya i also read good things abt this filter in the past... i also have a question... why does it say it fits only gst models dose that mean we have to make a custom intake pie to make it fit???

Re: Apexi Power Intake or the FIPK?

well seeing how the gst and gsx have the same engine I would think you should be ok. It should be the good on either of the turbo models. if not, I'm sure you could just get the apex filter and put it on a dejontool intake or injen or whatever you have. if you're not worried about the looks though I'm sure the home made pipe would be fine. either way... the apex has intrigued me

Re: Apexi Power Intake or the FIPK?

haha... I guess it would mean curious. I've never really looked into the apex. So the fact that it tested better than the k&n and injen "intrigued" me... it's a good thing

Re: Apexi Power Intake or the FIPK?

I think that I read off that test that some information was taken from a japaneses article. Makes me wonder since Apexi, I believe is a Japanese company. Kind of like they have a vested interest in this. hmmmm

Also, I wonder that since the filter is not letting any debris through, how does it flow better. i would think that the flow would be more restrictive. Anyway, I have the K&N and I love it. I guess that is all that matters. Just my 2 cents.

Thats about 30 more than a K&N though. You shouldnt be paying more than 90$ for a FIPK. That part wont help me though anyway. I need just a 3" filter. I'll do a search search later when i get to work.

Re: Apexi Power Intake or the FIPK?

What do you mean that part won't help? It is just the filter. And a FIPK for $90?? Show me a link, lol. Couldn't find it for that cheap anywhere at all.... Not even for less than $100

Re: Re: Apexi Power Intake or the FIPK?

the apex'i is built a little different, it like has a dual tornado type spike that stablizes and removes tubulence from the airflow. that may compensate for the ability to increase power and decrease impurities. but i second 95gsxracer about 'where does all the crap go?' it has got to build up somewhere, right?

Re: Apexi Power Intake or the FIPK?

That part wont help me. IFit says it is for a 95-99 DSM, that means it is meant to be used with the 95-99 DSM airflow sensor. It has the adapter like the FIPK does. I dont use the stock airflow sensor. I just have a 3" pipe off the turbo that needs a 3" filter to attach to it. K&N is 40 dollars, for comparison.

I got my FIPK for 90 from a local DSM vendor who was a bushur reseller. Not sure if he still sells them for that price. Nope he doesnt, 110 now. Perhaps because hes a SBR reseller now, lol.

Ah well, in that case its evened up a lot.
