need help about broken stock blow off valve
i really need help about a broken stock blow off valve on my 89 toyota supra turbo. i just put a new used engine in it and the stock blow off valve went bad, i can breathe right through it. now the car cant go over 2k rpm without a bad hooting and whisleing sound. also after driving for a little bit, the car dies. is this normal with a broken blow off valve? i hope so, and also the engine heats up faster than normal. plz help, thanks for any responses.

Re: need help about broken stock blow off valve
If you plan on replacing it just get a Bosch BOV, it will hold more boost and fits right in the stock location. It's the one made for the porsche and shouldn't cost any more than $30 new. PN is 0 280 142 110 from here..
http://www.thepartsbin.com/ Heating up faster could be a number of things, the engine coolant passages could be much cleaner, you could have put in a different mix anti-freeze/water or who knows what else, but it's not a problem, it's actually a good thing if it gets to normal operating temperature faster.

so since the stock blow off valve is broken, is it normal for the car to stumble, such as not accelerating. when i press the pedal harder, the car will stall for a split second and then jump and accelerate, but i can hear the loud boost leak from the broken blow off valve. thanks for any response? also, i would like to thank projectmk3supra for the quick response above.

Re: need help about broken stock blow off valve
it could do that i have seen problems with a bov stuff like having stock bov vent to atmosphere instead of back into the intake pipe creats problems. but if i were you just get the one like talked about above or get a different one like hks or greddy or a good name like that then being adjustabl is cool to but its up to you and how much you want to spend.

Re: need help about broken stock blow off valve
Just so you know the Bosch can be adjustable, with a boost controller, the metal porsche bosch BOV will hold up to 20psi with no problems either, all this for only $30. Obviously if you plan on running 20psi then you'll want a nice aftermarket one, but anything involving the CT-26 you'll be happy with the Bosch. Yes it could stumble/stall for a second with a open BOV, with it broken under vaccume/off boost you'll be pulling in air through the BOV from the turbo inlet which won't hurt anything, but under boost you'll be venting the air back into the turbo inlet. Basicly making it dog slow and disabling your turbo till you get a new BOV.

i got my old stock bov that was working and put in in place of the broken one. The engine now shakes like hell and a lot of smoke comes out of the exhaust and from the engine. Does anyone know what cuases this? The engine dies after start up also. I thought the broken bov caused a boost leak, but even with a working one, the car is still messed up. cant drive the car because the engine can't idle and will die. plz and thanks for any help.

Re: need help about broken stock blow off valve
What color smoke? If it's white then your in trouble, anything else but black/grey is equally bad but white is almost always coolant caused by the dreaded BHG. Read this link and hopefully it will straighten it out...
http://www.supraforums.com/forum/sho...hlight=BHG+FAQ Sad as it is to say but it sounds like you have the symptoms, serious loss of power, white smoke out the exhaust (if it's white that is), won't idle and dies. Is there any loss of coolant from the radiator? Well anyway I hope it's not but that's the worst case scenario. |

just got the car fixed, luckily, it wasn't a blown head gasket.
the accordian hose was already trashed but the mechanic said that a hose under the engine had a big gash in it and it was the reason why the car wouldn't start. i think that was where the boost leak was. thanks for all the help projectmk3turbo |

Re: need help about broken stock blow off valve
Sweet deal, you lucked out on that one. So the IC hoses were gashed, causing a massive vaccume/boost leak. Glad to see it's fixed.
