hypertech power programmer compatability

I have a '98 2 dr tahoe 4x4 and was wondering if a power programmer from a '99 tahoe would work or if it would cause problems with the computer. my friend is selling his tahoe soon and said he'll give me his programmer if it works. the trucks are basically identical except for the year. any info would be greatly appreciated.

I believe that the programmers are year specific.

unfortunately these tuners are year specific. Though everything appears to be the same,the brain is programmed with different codes for each year. Sorry!
