super bowl sucks

Because of the public's craze over super bowl, my employer hasn't run production on super bowl Sunday since I can remember. Which is fine because I work in maintenance and we work all hours including weekends. Sundays are double time. I have been able to work every day this year so far. I was planning to work every day as long as I could. But this year, management has decided to not have anybody work at all, feeling that since not enough people volunteered it would not warrant a supervisor to be scheduled. So I can't work.

I have been trying to work my way out of a bad credit rating (because of bankruptcy). I would like to be able to buy a house and get my family out of this trailer. Along the way I have managed to help out family members and pay for a custody battle with my ex-wife so my kids would have a better chance. I am just pissed off that I have to lose 8 hours at $37 an hour because of something I don't and have never cared about - sports.

Re: super bowl sucks

ITs just one day man. Relax. Sleep in. You might as well enjoy it considering you don't have another choice.

I probably will get up at my regular time. It's just when you have a goal, you don't like anything getting in the way.

Do you bitch this much about Christmas and Independence Day? It's not the NFL's fault you went bankrupt. It's just one day. Watch the game and be happy like everyone else in the US.

Ummm....considering that those are holidays, probably not. Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus, and Independence Day celebrates our independence from Britain. The Superbowl is not a holiday, it is a sports event, and I agree with wrencher, businesses shouldn't close today. Wrencher is trying to accomplish a very respectable goal, so cut him some slack and give him some frickin' credit for working so damn hard to reach his goal.

well.. the super bowl is kinda good for me actually.. I'm 17 and I work at a bagel store (hey, it pays for the ins.) So when the super bowl comes on, it will be slow as hell which means, my job will be all that much eaiser. But wrench, that does suck ass, considering it's for 37 an hour.. I would take steels advice, sleep in, go do some crap around the house, chill with your friends, enjoy the day off--- It's not like you have a choice to have it off anyway.

I'm not much of a football fan but it is one of the biggest annual sporting events in the world.

Its good to see that you are very determined to get out of debt and improve your life for you and your family. That shows a lot. However, working everday, going going going none stop is certainly not healthy. Its great you want to work everyday, but when work gives you a day off take it and run with it. Spend time with your family today, throw something on the grill and kick back and relax. Best of luck.

Re: super bowl sucks

Superbowl Sunday is just another Sunday around here. I never work on Sunday. I never will. If I can help it I will never work on Saturday for the rest of my life either. I have a good streak going of not working a weekend in 6 years. I can't see the point because I don't make any more when I do.

I am a journeyman maintenance mechanic in machine repair. I work at a gray iron foundry. I got this job 5 years ago as an apprentice. I completed the 6500 hour apprentice program in 2 years. 6 months later I went to top pay of $18.41 an hour. Sundays and holidays are double time at $36.82 an hour. I have worked at least 3200 hours a year since I have been there; the most in one year was almost 3500.

I feel that the hours I put in is a small sacrifice I can make to make sure that my family is taken care of. 9 years ago I started over with virtually nothing. I have worked every holiday in years past that I could. Soon I will be in a position that I won't have to work all the time.

I don't care for what the sports world has become with the players' pay demands and the scandals. All sports used to be a game that players played, and fans watched. I enjoyed going to a baseball game as a child. Times were different then. It was all about the game. I really enjoyed the movie "Rudy". Here was a young man that just wanted to play football for Notre Dame, his favorite team. What he felt was the greatest team in the world. That is the kind of attitude that pro players should follow. I have lived in South Bend for 20 years now and have never watched a Notre Dame game. But I admire Rudy's commitment and dedication. I just don't think that some people have priorities straight.

Half time on right now....Seriously, I would have traded my CAR in to be there with a .50 cal sniper rifle when p.dildo diddy was on...but instead, I'm just watching it for the commercials (which all suck save for the Ford GT one) while playing some old school Doom. Nacho TIME!!!!

Re: super bowl sucks

phhbbbbttt......It's funny they are claiming an International audience of one billion............Sorry- but pets, farm animals and flies that hopped on the Nachoes don't count people!

I'm putting the actual viewership at about 400 million. Nobody could give any less of a shit outside of North America.

I also don't like sitting there for 4 hours while the teams figure out what to do.
