1989 chevy astro van-please help
please help, my van won't stay running, black smoke out of tail pipe, service engine light on, fuel leaking

ok, your van is flooding out, thats why you smell the fuel, it also gives the black smoke. Crank it continually while FLOORING the accelerator pedal. Dont do it for more than 15 seconds at a time, and allow some time between tries. When it begins to fire, keep cranking and holding down the accelerator. Once it is chugging, stop cranking and keep it floored until it clears itself of the excess fuel.

My 94 did the same thing. I found it to be a stuck EGR valve. I removed the valve and a small piece of carbon was stuck in the opening thus keeping the valve open. I cleaned the valve and replaced it. That took care of the problem.
