88 S10 Blazer possible transmission problems - Please help.

I have an 88 S10 Blazer, 2.8 automatic that is doing something I have never seen or heard of before. When you start it, it runs perfect on the road until the motor warms up. Once it warms up, it's like the transmission starts slipping. You can stop and shut off the engine, count to 10 and start it up and it will jerk your head off and run perfect again for a few minutes. After a few minutes it starts the same thing over again. As long as you stop and shut the motor off for a few seconds it will start up and run perfect again for a few minutes. There doesn't seem to be any problem with the motor. What can it be? I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Thumbs up May have a fix

Hello,

Your problem may be simpler than anyone thought. I had a similar problem with my '97 The tranmission was slipping out of overdrive when it got warm, or when I turned on lights, I spent over $1000.00 before I tracked it down. It turned out to be my wire harness in the steering column.

Hi folks,

I'm a newbie here (Great forum you have here!) and I was looking into my slipping trans on my 97 S-10 while coming out of overdrive. Lo and behold this thread looks promising.

Cybermoser...did you have to replace the wiring harness or did you just connect it tighter?

the 88 is gonna be far different than the 97 or 98 - they have electronically controlled transmissions, the 88 does not.

for the 88 - are you sure it has to be shut off? does it 'fix itself' if u simply come to a stop and enter park?

Have you checked the fluid level?

yes I'm beginning to think it is the transfer case from which the grinding is coming from

this is exactly what my 88 s10 blazer is doing as soon as I stop and put it in park it fixes itself (I have to put it in neutral before turning the motor off because the tranny keeps spinning until it is off) but I sit there for a few seconds start it back up and it drives for a little while more then it does it again
