Engine studdering?

Usually it is first thing in the morning when I go to school when it is fairly cold out. I start off and between 1.5-4k rpms my cars seems to studder like it needs more air or fuel. I dont think that is what it is though. I have a AEMv2 CAI that is not even a year old as well as AEM fuel filter, rail, and regulator. I tried some fuel system cleaner, but it didnt seem to help much. Could it possibly be that I need new injectors. My idle bounces some as well. I am at a loss, because I have tried everything I know w/o having some major downtime on my car. Any ideas?

Cold engines don't like cold air intakes, the air temp screws with the fuel mixture, normally making the car run rich.

I'd be willing to bet if you put the stock intake back on, it would fix it. I'm just making an educated guess about stock intake helping the problem, I don't know from experience.

Sounds like a plan. Do you think just possibly taking off the cold air extension and converting to a short ram type might fix all of the cold air it is getting and put some of the warmer air made by the engine?

You could try that, if nothing else, you have to take that off to put back the stock intake, right?

I would check your spark plugs and plug wires.

Yes I do, and my plugs and plud wires are less than 9months old so I dont believe that is my problem, but I will continue to check all.

I have your same problem...I put my stock intake back on and it didn't help at all...except now I have to downshift everytime I go up little hills on the freeway ;(

The stock comes back off tomorrow!

check your regulator, you might have it set too low.

Check your vacuum hoses and make sure there are no leaks. Also check that your plug wires are plugged in tightly. Just a few days ago my intake pushed against a plug wire and it wasn't plugged into the distributor all the way. Check your distributor rotor as well by taking off the cap to see if there's any condensation or something in there. You can check for a good spark by pulling the plugs, pop them back into the dangling wires, and have a friend turn the key. Check to see if each one sparks.

maybe thats my problem...the guy who i originally bought my car from was a mechanic and he had messed with the distributor to get more power out of the car...he also screwed with the gear ratios and stuff....he explained to me thats why my car is faster than my friends 93 EX (same car but his is slow)

u think that may be why my car idles so crazy?

the only way to mess with the distributor for more power is to loosen its bolts and twist it a bit to mess with timing, but I've only heard of doing that for nitrous. If you have a timing light I'd revert it back to stock.

Thanks for all the replies. I will continue to check the ignition system for faults. I will be taking it to the shop and will be getting an injector cleaning to see if that might help as well.

I would check the cheapest thing - spark plugs. I know my car would stutter when accelerating and found out my plugs were gone.
