1993 K1500 starting problems

I have a 1993 K1500 with 350.It has 230,000 miles on it .Can not get to start without dumping gas down the tbi once it starts it will stay running until it I let the rpms drop below 1000.Fuel pump and relays are working(disconnected at tbi and turned on key)Replaced fuel filter.Checked codes and had 12,no reference pulses to ECM.Disconnected battery and reset computer still same thing.Don't Know what to try next.Any help would be appreciated. Also read through about 50 other posts.

You said your fuel pump is working, but it might not have enough fuel pressure to run the fuel injectors. You need to check or have your fuel pressure checked to make sure the injectors are getting enough fuel.
Also, You will always get code 12 with that ECM. It is telling you that the engine isnt running when you did the code check. :o)

Replaced fuel filter, bad fuel pump grounded out inside tank.plenty of fuel, now all it does is starts up runs like crap, shuts down after rpms get below 1000.No spark after it gets warm, tested Ignition cotrol module(good)replaced pickup coil, plugs, cap, rotor, wires, coil.Could it be The ECM or maybe ESC module,I don't know. Not sure where the ESC Module is.

Re: 1993 K1500 starting problems

Could be a vacuum leak in a hose, throttle body, or the intake. Spray everywhere with carb cleaner with the engine running to find a leak. (rpms will change)
I had a 94 with a bad EGR solidoid, (electric part that hooks into the hose on the EGR valve) that was causing a hidden vacuum leak. Might look into that too.
Also.. you said you had a shorted out fuel pump. Have you checked the fuel pressure yet to make sure it really is up to factory specs? Even if the pump is new.
Good Luck!

code 12 is really not a code it is just a system test to see if the computer and the scan tool can communicate to check fuel pressure you will have to hook up a pressure gauge at the fuel filter the fuel pressure should be between 9-13 p.s.i.
