jumping tach

just wanted to know if anyone can help me...my tach is jumping all over the place. dont know what it is. around 4500 rpms it also feels like im losing power. i.e. like the rev limiter is kickin in. sound familiar anyone? please help. thanks

well first check your timing, then get a leak down and compression check, that can be done at most shops. if that doesnt fix it i dont know then. hope this helps

What kind of car do you have? Integra right? GSR, LS etc? Need to know to further help.

jumping tach

you may want to check fuel pressure. sometimes if you dont have correct fuel pressure this will cause a misfire symptom. try this and let me know. remenber if you replace the fuel pump you must replace the fuel filter. tha main cause for fuel pump failure is a clogged fuel filter.

My tach was jumping around, but I had two igniters go out in the distributor prior. Suddenly the car wouldn't start. Turned out to be the Distributor. Had it replaced. Fixed that problem. Check that before you replace ECU. Also, make sure it's a factory. They can give you other problems if it's not. My first replacement turned on the check engine light at 2k RPM's like clock work. I had the Distributor replaced again under warranty, corrected the problem. There is a tach connection to the Distributor. Yours may not be a completely bad Dist., but related.
