Tilt Wheel Loose
Hey anyone out there know if theres a way to tighten my tilt wheel back down.. because at the moment my tilt wheel is loose.. Not the column but the part that tilts wheel moves up.. idk its just loose and i was wondering if there was a way that i could tighten it so it wouldn't do that i checked the column like a said but its not that its the part that tilts.. i would really appreciate the info.. thx

our 89 astro van did the same thing, its the knuckle in the steering column where it tilts up and down.

You have a loose tilt assembly? sound like the bolts that hold it together have backed out. I had the same thing happen to me on my 1990 f/s chevy pu any good mechanic shop can fix this but it cost me $150 bucks. might find a good colume in a salvage yard for less than this.

It's an easy fix if you have a few tools. (and write down the order you take things apart) The steering wheel has to come off - then the directional switch and ignition. There's a spring tension loader that can be removed by using a phillips head screw driver in the cap with a downward pessure and twist to unlock... Then there are 4 torque head bolts to tighten.. they are the ones that hold the tilt secure.. then put it all back together and you're all set. Exact directions might be in a Chilton or other type of repair manual available at parts stores. |

Be care full of the wheel lock spring (special tool needed) a frind dented the inside roof on a caddy because he did not have the right tool it can hurt you baddly
