2000 Grand Am Traction Control

My "traction off" light on the dash has come on and the traction control button will not work. Also, the same time the traction light came on, the service engine soon light turned on. Could the two be tied together, and how can it be fixed?

When the check engine light comes on the traction control system turns it self off, its an automatic thing on all the Grand Ams... fix the problem thats making the check engine light come on and the ETS off or whatever light for the traction will also go off

Re: 2000 Grand Am Traction Control

my ets off light was also on in my car, along with the check engine light. i got it coded, and it was a cam sensor that needed replaced. the shop replaced it for me, and now everything is fine

I had the same problem with my car back when i first bought it. I drove it in the snow and some slush, which it triggered the Trac Off light to come on. After a few hours it went away. Do to the recent snow in the Northeast here, I would avoid any slushy snow spots, ( if we ever get above 10 degrees!)

Re: 2000 Grand Am Traction Control

Well took the car into dealer and it turned out to be an wheel bearing. thanks for the warranty but if you have this problem should cost you around 150 - 200. Anyways good luck

We recently took our car to have the oil changed. when we left the Trac off light was on and the car was shifting hard. They had unplugged a wire on the black hose right at the front of the engine compartment (from the air cleaner) and forgot to plug it back in. We plugged it back in and drove it a little and the "trac off" light went off. I dont know if this sensor went bad if it would cause the same problem. The trac light wont reset right away. After the problem is fixed it will reset at the next possible reset point. Maybe this will help save somebody a headache.

Re: 2000 Grand Am Traction Control

If the SES or ABS lights come on indicating a problem in one of those systems, the TRAC light will come on and the TRAC system will be disabled.

Re: 2000 Grand Am Traction Control

my ABS, SES, and TRAC lights have been coming on after my wheel bearing replacement... the bearing has been replaced 4 times now and the light is still on... anyone know any other causes could be making these lights come on... heard it could be a O2 sensor????

Re: 2000 Grand Am Traction Control

Its a failsafe , if the abs or something like that has a defect it disengages it.

Re: 2000 Grand Am Traction Control

ok... but everytime i run a computer on it, it always comes back to that same wheel bearing... i have checked all connection numerous times... even my mechanic is stumped over this one... the abs and everything works perfectly when it is engaged... i tried locating a relay but if there is one that could be bad... not sure what to look for??
