92 Taurus Windshield wiper system

I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem I am having w/ a 1992 Taurus' windshield wipers. I have read the other topics regarding this subject and tried the suggested solutions with no success.

The windshield wiper motor will not work in any position on the controls. The windshield washer motor is working, so I assume that the circuit breaker is fine, since they use the same one. I also checked all the other fuses. The wiper motor is getting power from some of the contacts. The motor has 2 sets of wire connectors, one on the gear assembly and one on the motor itself. On the gear assembly there are 4 wires (black, Red, Green, and Black w/ a red stripe). The only one that has power is the green one. As for connector on the motor itself, there are 3 wires, I get power from all 3. I bought a new motor and hooked it up and still no results.

At this point I am assuming that it is the switch on the multi-function lever mounted on the steering column.

Any help would be greatfully apprectiated, Thank you

Same problem here...wipers work on wash, but not on low, high or intermittent.

Thanks,

Lori

Re: Re: 92 Taurus Windshield wiper system

My wipers make a clicking sound when switch is rotated and don't come on. If the switch is left on for awhile they will start to work. I swapped in a motor from a junk yard and same prob.

I'm guessing it is either the wiper control module or contacts in the switch.

The module is located up under the dash on the right side of the steering column as you are sitting in the driver seat. The chime is a little black box that you can located by turning the ignition and listen to locate it. The wiper module is right above that. 2 screws hold a metal bracket that the chime, wiper module are mounted on. Try another from a junk yard for a few bucks and/or pop the cap off the multi function switch and remove a screw and spray electronic contact cleaner (radio shack has this) and clean with a Q tip. Be careful as there is a spring in there and is delicate. remember the order of the parts in the switch.

I will be trying this tomorrow as I know where there are several Taurus parts at a nearby junk yard. Chiltons manual shows this module in a diagram.
