1994 Park Ave Dies
I have a 1994 Park Ave. I had the transmission overhauled @ the dealers. Two days later, the car would not start. I would remove the negative termial from the battery, replaced it, then it would start right away. Then a few days later, the car would just die as it was running. The radio, the IP lights, A/C, everything died. I would have to limp the car over to the curb, when I placed the car in park and turned the key, nothing. No crank at all. The only thing I could do to start the car was to take the battery cable off and put it back on. I replaced the battery, it was only a year old, and it did the same thing.
I have been fortunate that when the car died, it died on side streets and strip malls. I am worried that this will happen on the freeway with my family in the car. Picture the car just dying on the freeway with no notice. It does not sputter or run funny at all, it just dies as if it was unplugged. No brake lights or signal lights to let anyone know. We would have to jump out of the car and get to the side of the road. I would feel badly for anyone coming around the corner. This same thing happened to a co worker of mine with a 1994 Park Ave too, except his was on the freeway at night. Everything went out. headlights, everything. He was able to roll off the road and restart the car. I was told a freind's car did the same thing (Trans AM), it was a problem with the PassKey II. I know there may be problems starting the car because of the security system, but would it effect the car like this when it is running ? Would it take out the lights, turn signals ? Please help. This has been making me crazy. I don't trust the car right now, makes me very nervous to have my family in the car like it is. |

Re: 1994 Park Ave Dies
My suggestion would be to check two things: One would be the positive lead to the battery, where it interfaces wioth the vehicle. Though these are typically on the starter, they are at times on terminals elsewhere. You might also check your ground connections. The anti-theft should not affect the lighting. Since the trans was out of the vehicle, I suspect loose terminals somewhere. Ray

Re: 1994 Park Ave Dies
could it be a circuit breaker ,or fuse, under the hood in the fuse box that overheats and kills the power and it does not reset until you disconnect power by means of the bat. cable. see if any circuit breaker get overly hot while its running, might need to replace one.
