Question New CRX? JV-X?

I've always been a big fan of the CRX. Of course I was bitter that Honda replaced it with the DelSol and has since ceased production on it as well. In my quest for more info, I found what appears to be a kind of old set of images and very vague info about a CRX successor called the JV-X. The story seems to have first appeared in 98, with speculation about release in 99, but since then I haven't been able to find any dated info. It just sort of disappears after 98/99, so my question is, what happened? This car looked totally sweet. I don't think I'd want the 1.0Litre 3Cyl. they were slated to put out, but I saw rumors of a performance version with a 1.5L or 1.6L Vtec. Anyway, can anyone verify or support any of this info? Has anybody seen any newer stories/info on this car or its future? A friend told me he "heard" it was slated for 2003/2004 but couldn't verify it.

:flash:

That apparently looks like the new CRX, but the JV-X was pretty different in appearance. Here's a pic of the JV-X concept at its debut:

The JV-X was supposed to get 70 - 75mpg using some hybrid engine/electric/variable transmission combination. If the new CRX could, as that pic says, stomp an Integra Type R, then I'd say they must be pretty different cars, unless Honda really is going to create 1 model and offer a performance version in contrast to the ultra econobox of the JV-X.

For the record, I like the concept pic you posted better than this JV-X as Honda started it. What magazine is that picture from?

that looks way more like the insight than a CRX, the insight does have a 1.0 liter 3 cylinder joined with an electric motor and gets amazing gas mileage. I drove an insight and was not impressed, it's slow and handles like a wet toad. It has a "feature" that cuts off the engine when you stop, put the clutch in, and take it out of gear but I found it more of an annoyance even though it starts up when you put it back in gear.

Yeah I think you guys are right, the JV-X must have "evolved," as it were, into the insight, though I think the concept model looks a hell of a lot cooler. I saw a lot of write-ups about the JV-X coming to European markets as JV-X, and nothing about the name "Insight," so has anyone ever heard or seen one of these cars in existence as JV-X?

Also, that being said, I want more info about the new CRX, damnit! That pic above is cool but it's a drawing. Has Honda made a real version yet, or are they planning to any time soon?

I think a new CRX would be awesome. The design looks really cool, and it seems like a fitting successor to the retired rex design, especially if, like the magazine alludes, it's bad enough to top an Integra Type R.

The pic marked001 posted is from the Australian Motor Magazine.

There was for a short while talk of a new CRX, (the above pics of the JV-X) but it seems to have vanished into concpet car heaven.
Altough note that the talked about engine technology is being put into production. There's a civic avlaible in Europe and Japan with an electric Hybrid engine, and its looking more and more likly the new NSX will have an electric hybrid engine.
Sadly for Honda it seems they are moving away from making small light wieght sports cars in the mold of the orginal s600. Cars like the CRX, my Civic, the City Turbo, the Honda beat and finnaly the NSX represented a time when Honda was being new and daring and exploring nich markets.
But as Honda has grown so has the markets they are trying to tap, and unforunatly so has the amount of control the Accountants and Marketers have over the Enginers.
Look at the new Type-R Integra, (RSX-R) and the Type-R Civic, (Si Civic) they are only an illusion of the original cars, both have grown fat and have been tamed and dulled down to catch a much wider market segment. Its good for Honda, but sad for us true enthusiasts.

I doubt there will be a new CRX ever. There maybe some kind of small sports car from Honda in the next few years, but it will not be a CRX.
The world is simply becoming to safe for such a car to exist.
