Wink A few more questions(sorry)

1) Is it worth buying the air intake pipe or is the factory one pretty good?

2)Whats the best way to raise the boost a hair on my factory turbo? MBC EBC and whats a decent brand thats pretty simple but good quality?

3)99 GS-T spyder 5speed vs 90 RX-7 T2 5 speed w/intake&cat back vs 03 Mazda 6 V6 Auto

Re: A few more questions(sorry)

I don't think it really makes all that big of a difference other than looks to replace the intake pipe, the edvantages wouldn't be anything amazing. The K&N fipk would probably be your best bet. EBC is more convenient, since you don't have to get out and pop the hood every time and tweek it till you get it where you want it. but it's also more expensive. Try the greddy profec B. not too expensive and easy to use (from what I hear)

as far as the race between cars... I'd have to go with the RX-7. if the spyder is stock.

Re: Re: A few more questions(sorry)

ok, the pipe and the filter are 2 seperate things. Injen makes a very good pipe for like $200 or you can go with the POS home depot pipe. the stock pipe is ok only if you hack the dump tube. as far as a filter is concerned, the K&N [cheaper] is on top with an Airinx [GReddy/Trust, more expensive] for top performance and cleanest air. HKS has good flow, but bad cleaning. most other filters are modeled after the K&N or the Airinx.

did you remove the Boost Control Solenoid Restrictor yet? it is a simple fix to give a little bit more boost. i would also recomend the Profec B-spec II EBC. easy to use from inside the car while driving and you will never need another one.

and just cuz i got a Spyder i gotta go with the Spyder... and i really think it would win too...

Re: A few more questions(sorry)

1) Personally I would buy an air intake pipe. Factory is good but I don't want any cracks or such that can suck something in that can damage my turbo. Personal thing I guess.

2)Question is based on convenience vs. cost. Conveneice is buy a electronic boost controller. Cost is buy a mbc and I perfer a Hallman Boost Controller. Ebay cost is $55.

3) Definitely gonna have to go with the spyder.

Ok with a electric boost control will that keep me from getting boost spike?
Is there a link or site on how to remove the boost control solinoid? And what kinda gains am i looking at? Also will that mess anything up, I just wanna get a little more power but stay reliable and not gain any bugs from my MODS.
And last what can you do to decreace turbo lag?
Thanks
Andy

Re: A few more questions(sorry)

Try www.vfaq.com for info on the boost selinoid. An EBC won't stop boost spike, but would probably help. You can boost the stock turbo to about 15 psi safely. It should not cause any major "bugs". But depending on how deep you go into modding you're going to have to accept the fact that some things will go wrong. It's just something that happens when you start modding. With the T25 (stock turbo) You're not going to have to worry about lag. You won't be bothered by turbo lag until you get into the larger turbo's such as 18g and 20g. Good luck.

My lag doesn't bother me.

Re: A few more questions(sorry)

The turbo intake pipe should be upgraded. See my writeup on my site about it. I saw a 60 hz increase with the home depot pipe on a 14b. Thats pretty substantial considering what airflwo level I was at. The stock pipe kinks down real small right before the turbo. Anything you can do to reduce vacuum before the turbo, will increase pressure after it, or raise efficiency if boost is still controlled by the MBC/EBC (not maxed out).

Re: Re: A few more questions(sorry)

the profec b-spec II has a GAIN function that will control boost spike and creep. i have absolutly no problems with either of them... do a search on the b-spec II in here cuz i did a comprehensive write-up for somebody with a tuning question for the most info

Re: A few more questions(sorry)

Boost controller can NOT control or affect creep. Creep is entirely a function of WG flow capacity vs turbine flow capacity for a given exhaust air flow. Just wanted to clear that up Spike can be affected by the boost contoller thoguh....

Re: Re: A few more questions(sorry)

if i am getting creep, i turn the gain up and *viola* no more creep. if gain is too high, i get a spike. this could be because i'm only on a t-25, but it works as advertised

taken straight from the profec II manual:

if boost continues to increase as RPM increases, raise the Gain value.

i could have this all wrong but isn't that creep? like i said, it may be cuz i got a t-25.

Re: A few more questions(sorry)

Then it is not creep. Creep is when the WG cant bypass enough exhaust to control boost pressure. If you are artificially inducing a pressure rise with bunk ass BC settings, that doesnt mean your WG isnt capable of flowing enough exhaust to control creep. The outcome may be the same, but its two different things. I hope that makes some sense. I just dont want poeple thinking if they have boost creep they can fix it by going to a EBC, and this is a very common misconception because of people confusing spike and creep, which you have not done. But people will read this thread and misinterperet what we are saying.
