Need help with electrical prob

I have got a 95 tacoma with a 2.7 motor. I was driving it and it had a check engine light on it and it kept trying to die, and when it would die if u tryed to use the clutch and start it back up while u where sill going it would start but no excelleration, and no rpms. After that it stoped working it ended up having no spark I had it put on the computer and it said it needed a crank shaft sensor and o2 sensor, I put both of them in and it still will not fire up. I also put new cap and rotor on it.

I was also wondering if someone could explain how the crank shaft sensor works and if there is something right behind it you could feel if you stuck your fingure in there because when i pulled it out the old sensor it was broken and i could not feel anything behind it. Thanks
