Question alarm/remote starter issue

I have a 2001 Grand Cherkee. I got a alarm/remote starter installed and used one of those data bus interface modules to control the door locks factory disarm/re-arm stuff.
Here's the problem, When the remote start times out the module automatically re-arms the factory alarm regadless whether I previously had it disarmed or not. This ends up locking my doors even though I had left the truck disarmed before. (e.g. in my driveway loading the vehicle with kids/stuff etc.)

Is anyone familiar with any module that does not automatically re-arm the factory alarm, or if it does, does so with some intelligence, so as to leave the car in the same state it was before I remote started? Does anyone else have
remote starter installed in their truck and if so how does yours behave when the remote starter times out?

thanks,
nasdaqbull

Not sure what brand of starter you have or what kind of interface they used but I never had that happen before. I install DEI remote starts and the interfaces we have do not do that or so I have not noticed. I have done plenty of Jeeps lately that I think I should have noticed. Could be how the installer programed it.

So it's an ULtraStart starter and the bypass module is called the JEEP2, I've also seen it labeled under different names such as JD-PK. The module apparently is not programmable by the installer, it comes with software already built in.

If you're DEI module doesn't exhibit this behavior do you know if it will work with non-DEI alarm/starters?

Thanks,

As long as your remote start has lock/unlock and disarm wires then it should work. They're kinda universal.

It does have lock/unlock dis-arm wires. It also has a Ground when running wire that from my understanding activates the module to bypass the factory alarm. MY current module, when the GWR signal goes away automatically re-arms the factory alarm and hence locks the doors. Are you sure about the 455J module not doing this.

I am very surprized that I seem to be the first Grand Cherokee owner that has come accross this problem? I would have thought someone else would have come accross this issue. Unless everyone has only installed DEI stuff and if what your saying is true it doesn't have this problem.

In terms of compatability is there any issue with this module not working with non-dei starters. My starter has negative outputs for door/lock unlock etc. Is this the same with dei starters? For some reason I remember someone mentioning that dei stuff is different than everyone else.

Is there anywhere I can find the installation sheet for the 455J module?

cheers,
nasdaqbull
