Ride Control - Bang For Your Buck?

Just a quick question...lately I've noticed that my pour little 90 HB si is starting to ride like a buckboard...and I noticed it a little in my old STD too...

So for the question...
What would be the simplest, cheapest, and longest lasting improvement to make my ride more comfortable?

I don't want to go nuts and do the whole lowering, special coils, super duper gas from mars filled shocks...I don't care if I can adjust my shocks because the area of the road I'm driving on has a lot of small animals and I might hit one...I just want...a nice comfortable ride.

Suggestions?

Jason

Oh...I'm also a little confused...one mechanic told me that I have struts not shocks...another told me I have shocks not struts...one told me I have struts in the front and shocks in the back...sweet geezuz?

What's stock on a 90 HB Si? At least that way I can know where to begin?

Re: Ride Control - Bang For Your Buck?

You can pick up stock-style shock absorbers (the part inside the spring, that eliminates the "buckboard" feel) from most tire shops for about $25 apiece. If you want a better set, you can pick up KYB GR-2's from somewhere like the tirerack.com or expressautoparts.com for about $40 apiece. It would probably be good to replace your springs at the same time, since they are probably really worn out, and I like Progress or H&R for the money. I can get a set of progress springs for your car for about $150 plus shipping to your door, which I think is a great value, since they ride really nice, without the "goKart" feel, but tighten it up noticeably. That's my $0.02, lemme know if you wanna order a set of springs...

Struts have springs mounted as 1 assy.(honda)
Shocks are seperate from springs

I'd recommend either stock springs or H&R's minimal drop(.75" i think) for a comfortable ride. I would also suggest upgrading the struts if lowering with KYB GR2's or Tokico HP's, stock struts can be used if not lowering.

www.tirerack.com - decent H&R prices

Re: Ride Control - Bang For Your Buck?

I forgot to mention that you can use 1G teg springs in our cars to maintain almost stock ride height and get a much stiffer ride. I had this setup for about the last year, and it rode really nice. It lowered the car enough to eliminate some of the wheel gap, but not enough to cause camber problems.

Re: Ride Control - Bang For Your Buck?

If you just want the same ride height and a better ride go get 4 new stock struts the ride will be like new again. I have an accord that has no mods at all and I did the above and it was like a new car again. 2 front struts were like 80 bucks and since they aren't being used with lowering springs I won't have to replace them anytime soon. Plus they have a warranty.
