Ok Im about to buy a b16b motor for my 2000 ex, I need to know what extra parts I might be needing to buy for swap. My ex is pretty much stock. Any help would be great thanks.

Everything you'll need is all that is included with a "complete" swap. Since you already have an EX the same wire harnesses can be used. Axels, mounts, ecu, etc.

The b16b harness is for a right hand drive car, so you'll have to buy a bunch of 14-18 gauge wire, and about 100 butt connectors to extend all the wires about 3 feet from the usdm driver's side to our passenger side, where the new ecu will be.

Get new spark plugs (gapped to Si specs - .050), plug wires, and belts just as precautions. The motor won't be in the car yet so it's easier now than later when they go bad. You'll need belts for a gs-r, but everything else you'll ever need will be Si parts i.e. oil filer, header, cam gears etc..

Also, you may want to buy a high flow catalytic converter and exhaust both with 2.5" piping. The b16b exhaust manifold collector is 2.5" in diameter, which is way too big for your peahole stock catalytic converter and exhaust. Once you buy an exhaust you'll have to buy a 2.5" flange/gasket for it to all bolt up correctly to the exhaust manifold, and have it welded in. Go to www.inlinefour.com under the exhaust section, they sell the flange/gasket for like $80 total. If you don't install that you'll have an exhaust leak and the car will sound like ass.

Let me know if you have any problems during the swap, I have the same engine and love it. By the way I have a brand new (never opened) AEM short ram intake for an Si/Type R if you want it, name your price. You should buy one because the swap won't come with the actual intake piping/filter.. might as well install an aftermarket intake.

Just curious, where are you buying the engine from and how much are you paying?

Thanks so much for the info . Im am buying the motor from a auto salvage place specializing in JDM motors and what nots. The price I am paying is 3500 installed ( not bad compared to the prices on the net). I have a a custom brullen exhaust(full cat back) on my ex already will that not work for the time being?Im going to be a little broke for awhile after this swap so buying parts will be a little difficult :P but when I get some money saved back up I will let you know.

One other question.....Will I need to do any thing as far as converting my on board diagnostigs??

Nope, everything from the B16B ecu plugs right into your gauge cluster and will work with your EX tachometer and everything. VTEC kicks in at 6,000 rpms (it's quite a kick in the lower gears ), and redlines at 8,400 rpms. Your exhaust is fine, but your cat in between it and the new header will have to be larger to fit on the header. That's a pretty good price too, I bought mine for $4,000 but it was babied.

Re: 2000 civic ex swap to b16b

For starters look on the front of it on the block, right next to the transmission, and you should see "B16B". Some shady companies try selling Si engines with red valve covers and it'll say "B16A2".

Here's mine, look on the left where it says LSD also. I'm not 100% sure but I think all ctr engines come with an LSD tranny. Check for that too.

When I did a compression test on mine, each cylinder read a beautiful 210. If yours read around that (plus or minus 10), the engine should be in great shape. Look for oil leaks around the gaskets too.. you really won't be able to note any non-obvious problems until you start her up for the first time.

Re: Re: 2000 civic ex swap to b16b

Good luck, JDM engines aren't the cleanest burners like restrictive usdm ones. The B16B is OBD2, but only has one O2 sensor for the header... meaning you could run with a test pipe instead of a cat, or just have a high flow cat, and you'll never throw a check engine light. When you install it, you can just cut the wire to the second sensor but leave it screwed it using it as a plug for the hole. Also, these engines need 93-94 octane AT LEAST... In japan they say to use 105, but that's not too common around this country except for areas selling race fuel for $5 a gallon. I was stranded somewhere running on fumes and filled with '91 because that's all they had, and it didn't break or anything, but I felt bad afterwards.

I meant to use the EX harnesses not the JDM harnesses which I'm sure can be used. And instead of spending all the money on some expensive IL4 stuff, you could just take it to a muffler shop and have them run all the piping back from the header.

Yeah but he's worried about emissions, plus it'd be loud as hell w/out a cat. Mine's too loud and it has one..

Re: Re: 2000 civic ex swap to b16b

Yeah that's about what I had, so you've got a good engine. For the clutch, anything for a 99-00 Si engine will fit. The stock ctr clutch is nice and grippy though, but if you're going to replace it there are dozens of clutches out there. I had an ACT on my DX engine and it felt stock, but never slipped between shifts even on nitrous.
