Holy 968 !!!

I just found out that of the only four 968 RS's produced, 968 RS #1...the only 968 to compete at LeMans, is sitting in a garage about a half mile from my home !!!

Or at least it is if no one has offered up the $100,000 asking price.

The garage is apparently a private garage for a Porsche enthusiast, one with deep pockets no doubt.

I stopped by the garage the other day and I could make out the distinct silhouette of a Porsche 962 among the 20 or so covered mystery gems.

The garage says "Rennsport" on the outside. ( what's "rennsport" anyway ? )

I'm sorry to report that when I visited the garage unannounced they were less than friendly. I walked in, introduced myself, apologized for interupting, expressed my shared love of Porsche's and my curiosity about their shop.

All I got in was muttered responses and a half-hearted attempt at politeness. Porsche snobbery ? Maybe I shouldn't have told them I owned a 944. ( water cooled ? BLASPHEMY !!!)

I would like to think that if I was fortunate enough to own a stable of some of the world's most exotic Porsches, and a polite, curious Porsche enthusiast walked in, I would welcome his enthusiasm and maybe even offer to show him some of my collection when the time was right.

Oh well. I don't have 100k for a 968 and I don't run at Sebring with the doctors and lawyers....but I still love my little 944. Not only will I gladly show it off to anyone who inquires, I'll even give you a ride for free.

wow, i thought that users of a 944 forum would be interested in one of only four of the ultimate incarnation of the 944.

Apparently not. Maybe this forum is for kids hotrodding 944's more than it is for "enthusiasts" or collectors.

Anyway, for thsoe interested, the car is ownemd by someone named "lloyd", I'm not sure if it is still up for sale.

Lindsey racing still lists it as such.

I'm heading over to 968.net so see if anyone there is interested in this holy grail of 944's.
