Question Question for all.

I own a 1986 MR2, I was wondering what other engines will bolt into it?

The MKI supercharged engine is a direct bolt in.

A few people have successfully put a 3SGTE (MKII turbo engine) in the MKIs ... not sure how involved that gets.

Re: Question for all.

supercharged, 4age20v or 4agte are probably the easiest, a 3sgte is very involved...

Well, that helps but what other makes (i.e.: Corolla, Celica) have an engine that will bolt in?

Bolt right in = none.

Comanies don't make engines that bolt right into other cars. Mitsubishi, for example, wouldn't design the Eclipse's 4g63 thinking, oh, MR2 owners will want to drop our engine into their cars when the 3sgte dies out.

well, the reason im asking is a guy down the street used to own one and he said that he used a 85 supra engine. He said that 85-87 toyotas had alot of the same engine styles that would work, but didnt tell me which ones!

You guys (and myself) are missing the point of his question.
He is not looking at doing some kind of a transplant/upgrade/modded engine.

He is looking for a direct swap (same) motor.

The MKI MR2 has the 4AEG engine and that came in a lot of Toyotas.
It is one oftheir most popular engines.

RSLaser, your friends are right, there are many Toyotas that use the same engine. I am sorry I do nto know specific types/years.
I am sure the 87' Corollas(and hte FX16 hatchback Corollas) had this engine as an option.

One thing to keep in mind (if it is important to you), since all these cars have the engine in the front, the writing on the valve cover will be backwards when you put it in an MR2
