Have we been there yet?
I heard some rumors that people were saying the first moon landings were faked in some place in Navada, what do you all think?
Some observations: 1. There is no atmosphere in space so how did the flag wave in the "wind" when the astronauts placed it in the ground? 2. Why is it that there are no stars in the background of any of the photo's or video of the whole landing? 3. Why is it that we beat the Russians to it when both of our cultures were at the same point in the space race, the russians a little ahead of us, then we went past them to the moon and they stoped because they could not figure out how to not get radiation poisoning from the trip into space? 4. Why didnt any other Nation on the face of the Earth every go to the moon besides us? wouldnt any of them want to do it to prove that they could keep up with the Americans? 5. Why have the Americans or anyone else not gone back in 30+ years? |

Re: Have we been there yet?
the government is pretty bad at keeping secrets, if we didn't go to the moon it probably would have gotten out

Re: Have we been there yet?
I've watched the skeptic program on TV about the Moon landings and they bring up some very good points.I have also watched people on TV that claimed Hitler didn't kill Jewish people (BTW-not Jewish). I do not disagree with the fact that NASA might have doctered the photos for PR. The reason other nations didn't go is #1 technology #2 money #3 lack of interest. Also, due to USA reserch, they figured out that the moon is pretty much a useless lump as far as exploration. As far as radiation-both countries had nuclear weapons-and I think nuclear subs and power plants-they could handle rad. probs. I'm sure that there are people out there right now saying the Mars pictures are fake.My usual answer to people that complain about the money spent on space exploration is simply "good thing C.Columbus found some financing".Just what I think, you ask.

Re: Have we been there yet?
Flag: it only "waved" when the guy was moving it
Stars: its really freaking bright on the sunny side of the moon, which means the exposure was really damn quick, thus not captuing the stars. Russians: We beat them, fair and square Rest of the world: please. Why not gone back: Why? THESE says it would be great, to learn how to live somehwere else.. "practice" for mars i guess. But You know how expensive it was to send 3 guys to the moon and back? People lost interest, and there really sint much on the moon...

I agree with Steel. Furthermore, there are all the tangible pieces of evidence, the moon rocks returned, the hundreds of pieces of real equipment and technology on display in museums.
Also, the Apollo program consumed 5% of the gross domestic product of the US for 10 years and employed 100,000 people in total in various capacities. Do you think they all could keep a secret? I also saw a documentary debunking the conspiracy claim. All the claims about faked shots were BS. These people claiming them in fact know very little about the realities of the space program and the engineering and physics of the space program. |

Re: Have we been there yet?
What an achievement. You landed on some desolate place of the universe and waved a flag at a tax payers expense of some millions of dollars. You could have sent some dickheads out from the US on a raft and then trecked to central Australia on about 1% of the budget and at least there the view is red (not just plain old black and white).

Seriously, whats the point of pissing away good money to go to some moon?
so what? we get it! we can walk on the moon! what are we going to do with the fact that there was life on mars? Scientist: We have concluded, there was life on mars! TaxPayer: Well, it's good to see our money was well spent! so what do we plan to do with this information? Scientist: Well..uh...we could move there? TaxPayer: Why? what's wrong with earth? Scientist: Whats wrong with mars? TaxPayer: I'll give you a few reasons: 1. At this point of time, we have no idea if the human race could be able to survive there. 2. We have concluded there is no air in space, carrying around an oxygen tank wherever you go isn't too flash. 3. The human race has lived on earth for 100's of billion years, why would we want to move to a place we know nothing about, except for the fact that it has alot of red, a non-working spirit rover and it rains there? Scientist: Well it's always good to expand our knowledge into the galaxies far and beyond! TaxPayer: NEWS FLASH: no one gives a shit! sorry to go OT but had to rant

Re: Have we been there yet?
I dont see why people DON'T want to colonize the other planets. Why not? cause its hard and cost's a lot of money? Oh sorry.. i guess hard work and exploring new possibilities is too much to ask for these days..

So what do we know of the moon? It has no food sources. It has no water. It has no oxygen. Why then,is it even being considered as a staging point for a Mars mission? And what are we going to do if we ever get to Mars?Another quick game of golf for the cameras, and home after a few hours? Even if Mars turns out to be crawling with valuable minerals,or awash with oil,the logistics of transporting it back to Earth would render such an exercise unprofitable. The brave men who stepped onto the moon thirty years ago proved that we can survive for short periods on the surface of other planets. Advances made since then mean that a moon mission would be much safer and easier[the computers used on the appollo mission would not be powerful enough to run the graphics card on an average home PC].The concept of being the first to conquer the moon has already been claimed. The missions may generate a little more understanding in terms of astronomy and geology, but would be worthless to the average man.Claims that the original space program advanced technology as a whole are rather specious.Technology evolves all the time, and some of our biggest leaps have been made when the space program was at its most conservative. |

Re: Have we been there yet?
interesting stuff....but i'd just like to add to what Steel said.....basically guys, no other country in the world has the resources, personnel, the WILLING GOVERNMENT, or the technological resources to do such things.....
plus, China is trying to get into the space stuff because they are trying to re establish themselves as a world superpower, and trying to demonstrate their ability and basically it's a "haha, we've got stuff that you have, you're not so great" btw: China is going to be the next opponent of the United States they're a huge communist country with a large army and lots of control over their ppl it's going to be an issue in the next 50-70 years mark my words........
