Yeah I know, I'm usually alot nicer. Sorry, I was high. Anyways, if you buy a motorset or a front clip of the SR20, it will usually come with a transmission of your choice. Problem solved. It's just a shame that it will be an auto.

It would be a shame because you can't enjoy driving the car nearly as much. And IROCs should all be autos cause they are so crappy. Also, a car with a manual will be alot faster than an auto (in the same car, assuming you can drive).

Since the thread was open about auto transmissions..... 3 questions
1. How much horsepower can the ka24de auto transmission handle? and what are its weak points, can they be made stronger. 2. How much horsepower can the S15 sr20det auto transmission handle? 3. If the ka trans isnt as strong as s15's auto then can they be interchanged or is that only rear end parts? I plan on using my car mainly for drag racing @ the track (Moroso Motorsports Park, Palm Beach FL) and with a appropriate torque converter and shift kit an automatic transmission will shift faster so im sticking with the auto..... also if any one knows of companies that sell shift kits or torque converters for either transmissions, any info would be appreicated. Thanks |

From the florida turnpike or i-95 north or south..... get off @ PGA blvd and go west, until you reach b-line highway. Go north (right) and then just keep going about 10 miles. Its on the right hand side you really cant miss it.
if you look it up on www.mapquest.com, follow my directions on the maps there if ur board but there they are. if you want to get some serious runs and times go on a weds night so that you can get 4-5 passes, considering that the sportsmans line is normally backed up to the 1000 ft mark on a friday, dont antisipate getting more then 2 passes made, especially the first friday of the month when its midnight madness, races till 2am. Thats just way too many people. |

Im assuming you mean if the auto tranny is kept in stock conditions. otherwise i think ur still high....... a done up auto tranny owns at the strip....but sticks are just funner. |

Finally someone else agrees with me about having a modified auto transmission is better at the track then a manual.... Thanks Chuki Breath

its time to squish the opposition
Auto Tranny way better then a manual. Another falsified myth is that a manual transmission is stronger then an auto transmission...I think thats BS too. With a manual, besides regular wear, they are a lot more succeptable to user abuse... A built up automatic transmission will launch harder, shift quicker, and to top it all off, they are the shit on a turbo car; you never have to take your foot off the gas to shift, boost just stays built up. There are a lot of modifications you can do to the valve body inside the transmission to make it shift harder and quicker. There are also shift kits you can buy to make it even better, but you have to watch out if you do too much its detrimental to the transmission. A regular shift kit will actually make the transmission last longer too, although the mounts take more abuse. You could do half the modifications availble on the valve body and with a shift kit and it would shift as hard as you want and still not tear up the transmission. Having it built by a place that knows what they are doing is the best option, NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER goto AMMACO.... don't say I didn't warn you. B&M makes shitloads of shifters for auto tranny's. Some have features so it almost makes the transmission like a sequential one. You bump the stick to shift gear, and it will hold that gear until u bump it again. Not too mention they look cool as shit and are very durable. They sure as hell beat the cheap center console shifter you see on any production car. You know on an automatic transmission there is more then just "D" lol, you can drop it down gears and hold them just like a manual. Auto's use something called a flexplate, simalar to a flywheel. Although they are lighter and don't take as much abuse as a flywheel. A Torque converter is heavy, usually around 40 lbs but have u ever picked up a performance clutch? they aren't light either. And the Flexplate is lighter then flywheels... so drivetrain loss isn't THAT bad. Get a lightweight driveshaft(enjukuracing.com-around$400), a higher stall Torque Converter(2400-3000rpm for street), and some lightweight wheels and your drivetrain will be awesome. some cars also have the ability to tune the ECU or TCU to mess with the shift points and raise the rpm on them for further modification. and yes like someone said before, you can buy SR20 motorsets or front clips that have a factory automatic transmission. They are probably interchangable with the KA24 tranny with some work, Nissan didn't have that many different transmissions back then. |
