Read end gears: 3.73 vs 4.10

I have a 96 Mustang GT 5 speed, it is my daily driver car. I'm not looking to turn this thing into a race car or anything I'm just looking to get a little bit more kick out of my car. I also want to keep my mpg as high as possible. Which gears do you guys think is better?

I agree with skyline. As a matter of fact if gas mileage is an issue I wouldn't even consider 4.10s
Maybe 3.73 or 3.55

4.10 for racing. 3.73 for street.

I live in Arizona, anybody got any idea where I can get gears installed and how much it would cost?

most private repair shops will take the job, otherwise your local performance shop would definitely do it.

4.10s for a 2v. Especially a first gen.

I dunno if that is a wise choice in his case. True 4.10's with be the best performance wise, but with concerns of being a daily driver and such I think he'll be just happy with 3.73's for a variety of reasons.

imo, if gas was really a concern, he'd stick with the 3.08 factory gears.

Re: Read end gears: 3.73 vs 4.10

how about 3.90's splitting the difference. If I'm gonna drop 400 or so I would do the 4.10 so I wouldn't be dissappointed after awhile.

I have 3.73's in my 5speed fox body, and I feel that it makes each gear too short. Although 3.55's would only lower my highway cruising by a few hundred rpms, I'd choose them over 3.73 just because the gears are so short.

I drove a 4.10 equipped 5speed foxbody, and man.. I shifted 3 times and was only going like 25 mph. haha

Re: Read end gears: 3.73 vs 4.10

Dude get 4.10s!

some guys i knew had 4.10s in their stangs and it was perfect. 3.73s are ok but youd be regretting not getting the 4.10s. I for one am getting the 4.30s installed and awaiting a big grin on my face after the install
